This lay off is probably in preparation for the new CMO starting at the end of June in Houston.

The San Francisco Chronicle, owned by Hearst, laid off 15 people recently, including copy editors and page designers. The Chronicle is rehiring, not in San Francisco, but Houston, where salaries are far less.

At least half a dozen employees were laid off from Hearst Autos early Jan 2019. One of the layoffs was shamefully marked as "retirement".
