Rose colored glasses - OFF

Had to laugh after hearing from an ex colleague (yes I am gone) that one of the kidswho was drinking the coolaid finally took off the rose colored glasses last week, when he found out on of his heroes that was a big rah rah supporter turned in his notice. It's kind of amazing how guys who have been around forever tell these kids how bad it is, but it takes one of their own leaving for them to see the light. After all, what does someone with 40 years know? We are all just bitter old men. Makes my day when someone finally wakes up.

I took off my glasses when I noticed that every single customer I interacted with was upset with the company due to billing, appointments being incorrect, services not working correctly After multiple attempts to repair but the network is in such disarray you cannot. Also, we kept losing benefits and not getting real raises. A one time lump sum is not a raise!

I took the package little over a year ago because I couldn’t take the bull$&/T anymore. Thank God it’s all worked out. I did have a plan in place and things are great! My self and you Cantu! Make a plan now!

I agree with the guy who wears rose colored glasses. I like the work I do for CTL and yes, I think I am paid fairly, and compared to some places, have good benefits. BUT that's it. I go to work knowing that every day could be the last and there is no future. You can't ignore it.

"I look at it like this, on the National side when they tell you to get in the ditch and shovel the c-ap out of it they actually give you a shovel and rubber boots and gloves.

On Local they don't give you a shovel tell you to roll up your sleeves and it's your problem if you don't have rubber boots."

National techs would never dig a ditch, they'd hire a vendor to do it for them.

"National side guys have never dug a ditch much less ever gotten dirty. . . . .
Luckily us botching, griping, complaining local guys are overloaded with work, and who said anything about copper? "

Guess they don't know that those conduits that had copper are laying right next to the conduits that have fiber in them going from manhole to manhole or across areas in the ground or that we pull out the copper in install fiber in those old copper ones.

Tells me they are office guys in a cubicle making uneducated statements about the NETWORK.

That's some funny writing right there !!! Hilarious, you are in a Dying field if your anywhere near the copper period .National, Local I don't care which. Technology is passing you over like a typewriter repairman...Its not the Companies "FAULT" It is technology looming large, and poised to change this industry "AGAIN" FOREVER ??? Denial is a wonderful thing ...sure you can cling to the lifeline.....sure you can eek out some more time. Just know that in the end just like a typewriter repairman you will be obsolete. So those that are younger and just starting, if they don't move into other areas they are smart to leave? There is NO FUTURE for copper jockeys beyond say the next 5 years.......and to the get off my lawn character......You Can't though? so they will continue to poke at you like a pinata

So in short YES you can be the "Travel Agent" who is clinging to your lifeline as Travelocity, Kayak and others decimate your business, or maybe sit there as a "Job Recruiter" and cling while Indeed, Monster and others decimate your business. Or maybe you own a small yellow cab operation ? sit and Cling while Uber and LYFT decimate you? cling to that railroad Job, as 18 wheelers and other modes or transportation decimate you? Or maybe if your SMART you re-invent yourself and find and expanding vehicle rather than clinging to a shrinking vehicle?

Some of these kids are smarter than you give them credit for they were raised in a different world than most of you "Clingers" they are far more prepared for change

I put my rose-colored glasses back on this morning, and guess what I see? It's a beautiful world and I still have a good job doing what I love to do. It's amazing what you can see through rose-colored glasses.

"I don’t think all areas of the organization agree with your outlook. Yes I am sure it is easy to call people fools ETC because your angry at your situation, however there are many people happy/content with their tenure and situation. I have been here for 18 years and things continue to look positive. I along with 18 other National techs enjoy our work and get well compensated. I think that the local techs are going through a lot of change and a lot of it is not fair/good, however to call people fools because they work or enjoy working somewhere is pretty ignorant. "

It would be hard for any educated person to ignore the fact this place is a sinking ship. I think every field tech is quietly looking for a job, some not so quietly. Only a fool would think things are good here.

I work with a young guy like this. We have had so many techs quit in the past couple days even he has finally seen the light.
