I am guessing that will all change in a couple weeks when the next rounds of buyouts/layoffs occur.
How can you be so certain more buyouts and layoffs will happen in a few weeks? Was there an announcement that I missed? Or is this just wild guessing? I'd really like to know, just to know how worried I need to be.

Having been through this previously, I say trust your gut. The managers will tow the company line; if you are lucky, your mgr will tell you you WON'T be cut, but there are no guarantees. I left shortly after the last voluntary buyout–I didn't take it, and survived the cuts. But I knew the writing is on the wall with GE (and grocery retail in general) so I left. They will continue to lose revenue and will be forced to do more with less. Technology will help them stay solvent in some facets, but their non-contractor work force will continue to shrink to protect profit.
You should not worry. Most is speculation and regardless if someone made a compelling story why it’s true or false you should not take it seriously. Talk to your manager if you want best facts available.
