Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Your opinion on Enbridge IT ??

I'm absolutely struggling on what the value of our internal IT has become. I find it incredibly difficult to navigate the waters to get anything done. I find the people unresponsive, the management does not sort out problems, but just lets them fester and get worse. The outsource staff usually respond slightly better than internal staff, but the responses are so way off base it's impossible to get a reasonable result.
From what I have been told, TIS is well on the way to be completely outsourced because our current leadership can't seem to make any progress in stopping the free fall IT has been in for the last 3 years.
Looking for opinions from others.
Thanks

Most recent development - TIS is so incompetent they apply another change freeze due to SRP and ICS go live. Not sure why, as all basic IT changes still need director approval. That means nothing is getting done anyway. That has been in place for over three months, and this SRP/ICS change freeze will likely expire just in time for year end brown out.
How can any IT department justify a 6 month period of inactivity. To make it worse there has been no real effort to address the underlying issues.
It is pretty pathetic when TIS management tries to hide their areas incompetence with change freezes and the guise of "safety first". Worst management of all time.

I work in infrastructure in TIS, and feel like the place is about to implode daily. There is very little to no proactive work. All we do is deal with escalations all day, which you then have to try to quantify and hand off to our outsource group. They immediately add the task to the unending queue of work they will screw up after a long delay, resulting in another escalation. I can't count the number of things we used to turn around in a few days that now take outrageous amounts of time and resources.
Listening to the TIS Town Hall last week was like being in the twilight zone. What got discussed at that meeting seems to be in complete contradiction to what I experience daily.
Most of the message from BI and the crew seemed to be, they are still trying to get their organization setup and are looking forward to the day that they can actually make some positive change....
Disappointing!

IAM struggles to resolve any issue. They might give you a workaround after weeks or months. My advice to them is just be honest. If you can’t figure it out just say so and move on.

Unfortunately, you cant paint all IT with a broad brush. Internal IT (what's left of them post merger) give exceptional customer service for UST. External, on the other hand, my experience with them is unimpressive. I do wonder if Service Now tickets are routed by bots. Unless you track each one, those could end up in the abyss. Since we don't have the capability to route our own tickets to the appropriate groups the process is inefficient. thats a process issue (at times) not an IT one. Everyone's experience is different, but that's mine for what its worth.

Too much centralization. no one sees the inpact of the change on the BU. Poor rollout and communication plan. No feedback possible.

Its not the fault of the offshore teams.

Its leadership. it always is.

Nothing says “World Class” energy company like talking to someone with broken english in India over skype because they don’t have phones...

They really need to get rid of the offshore support. Hard to believe a whole department can go to sh– with a single signature of someone who no longer works here.

Would be great if the Infrastructure Planning team could manage IT for a few months. Can the crown jewel continue with a little less focus in order to bring up the rest of the company? After IT, I can name a few more departments

"I'm in TIS and can help....". This is the clueless I deal with everyday as a member of TIS.
We are supposed to be an operational group. You'd think that putting an emphasis on operational expertise would be a good thing. In reality, this is discouraged and all you have to do is have a perky, positive attitude. The less knowledge you have the better, because you'll quickly fall in line with dumb decisions and never question. Knowledge issues will get solved by the "cloud" or whatever other shinny object the Exec sees just over the horizon. Let's just really really believe we'll last long enough to get there. If you don't know how to do something, just call the vendor, because they'll give you the right answer, for a great price!! Thank god we never shy away from going over budget or over time.
Having people that know what they are doing and sound processes is so 2010.
Whoever wrote that "I'm in TIS and can help.." is probably one of the mangers. They need that real unique ability to miss the point, suggesting simplistic solutions that drive us further down the road to disaster. – Most recent example - Director approval of all IT changes.

There is something fundamental wrong with the structure of TIS, everyone I have meet has been pretty good to great. But, I am and other are displeased with the service it seems to be slowly getting better.

Pretty much. They laid-off the worst, most of the best left, and they destroyed all trust and job security. Same story throughout most of Shared Services.

A little bit of history of how we came to this. Some consultant told execs Enbridge IT costs too much compared to others. So former CIO decided to do something to please her bosses by outsourcing many IT functions and lay off many good, talented people. Many left on their own leaving the in-house staff with a dearth of skilled pros. All of these moves resulted in poorer service. Meanwhile, former CIO quit Enbridge dragging her sidekick but left behind her executioner (TL) who has been recycled as transformation guru. New CIO is hired but does nothing to reverse situation but instead sets up innovation lab for murky reasons. If you think service is poor now, just wait until everything has been moved to the cloud. You won't be able to talk to anyone in IT.

Problem is TIS exec's are more than willing to throw down millions of $ on id–tic things like the innovation labs, when we can't even supply our business clients with the most basic IT capabilities like decent reporting and mobility.

I'm in TIS as a "Business Partner" and trust me when I say Calgary TIS is a waste of space. All they do is set policies and standards and then throw it over the fence to us to deal with. Then they just govern and tell us we're behind schedule. So much c-ap we get fed that has nothing to do with serving our clients.

I can't tell if you're asking about IT or IP?
If it's IP, then this thread should be about singing their praises as exceptional communicators of commercial needs to us helpless technical people
