It's been pretty silent, which worries me

TC went on Shark Tank trying to make a deal on various aspects of the company, a fab here, some IP there, a sc-ap of this, a morsel of high tech that.... But he got rolled. Then History Channel picked him up for an episode of Pawn Stars and he managed to sell an EUV scanner and a bowl of buffalo chicken soup for $52.99 minus taxes and fees. At GF we call that a win.
"Shark Tank", what are you talking about?
WTF? Is this HR/Legal fishing to see if anyone reveals any "Globalfoundries Confidential" info? Pretty sad if that's what you have to resort to. It seems a good number of other posts disappear off this site after a couple of hours likely at the behest of GF monitors.

GF has no long term plan because it will be sold or close. Engineers are either NCGs or Visa workers who would take any job to get to the US. Technicians are not skilled technicians, but rather locals who don't have a lot of good jobs to pick from. GF doesn't have a lot of good applicants to pick from. I don't think even clueless IBM management expects this place to be around in a year.
Hearing from my old friends back at Fab8 that many high level technical people leaving in the past couple of weeks and this coming week. No plans to replace except with maybe a few NCGs. Also hearing that they are not even bothering with Exit Interviews anymore. Your manager hands you the relevant paperwork, you hand in your badge and get walked out. Way to treat the "most highly valued" asset in the company. This is just becoming a joke. HRs probably too busy getting all of the paperwork together for the next resource action.
What kind of long-term plan is it that lets all of the knowledgeable technical people go and keeps the same management that got them into this mess in the first place? The only thing successful has been transferring a technology from Samsung and taking twice as long to get it in place. Very sad, such a waste of money and talent - squandered by the same inept managers over and over and over.
(Oh yeah, heard about the "Shark Tank" thing, thought it was a JOKE until confirmed from another source.)
The silence has me worried too. I'm worried the next layoff will be of everyone. We put our house on the market and I've got my resume out there. I hope things will come together for me before Global falls apart.
Forbes is the JD Power of the business rags. They're cheerleaders for hire. Public companies with financial statements have hidden losses from analysts, but we can really take the CTO's comments at face value.
no layoffs ...
For the first time in the company’s history, Globalfoundries is profitable even without the funds it received from recent fab divestitures to ON Semiconductor and Vanguard International Semiconductor.

I am saying observation in last few anouncement. They sold mask house, asic and Fishkill and transferred the employee to bought company. So it's not layoff for employee but for GF as they reduced work force. Next they may try to do same type of activity to reduce work force and increase profit. Next in this line they may outsource some jobs
I didn't wait around to answer your question. I got off the sinking ship last fall. Why stay? You want to ride that ship to the bottom? You want all the good semiconductor jobs to be taken by the time you get the pink slip? You like high taxes, zero availability of other good jobs, and the lovely upstate NY winters? Someone please enlighten me on why you're staying, because I don't get it.
The topicof GF being a monumental failure has been beaten like a dead horse. In fact, GF is the dead horse and anyone still working there is the jockey going nowhere trying to ride it.
Incompetent and confused leadership bringing organization changes too slowly, that’s why it”s silent.
Its been silent because the economy is good and unemployment is low. Even the layoff a year ago was an outliar that only happened due to a massive miss on planning and execution. So layoffs everywhere are going to be few and far between. GF never ceases to surprise me though on just how poorly run it is. They never did clean house in the previous layoffs and they were as usual poorly planned and executed. Wouldnt surprise me if another layoff is recommended by McConsultants to target the under performing people they should have identified last year.
Of course there will be future layoffs. The question is not if, but when. This is true for all employers. Global is no exception.
Yes, there is potential for layoffs. There is also potential for no layoffs.
