As of January 1, 2020 the Freeport shop will cease operations. All staff will be relocated to the Bethpage shop. All techs are being asked to do work from home. Not mandatory, but they would prefer techs doing work from home.

This company as a whole,is an absolute joke.Theyll just sub everything out to make it as cheap as they possibly can. Were already in house contractors. We get 2 routes in one everyday, push, push, push and nothing in return.Managements attitude is oh well you het a paycheck(also a joke what they pay here)Never felt so disrespected,as an experienced tech in my tenure in this industry. Most of us are ready to just go 1099,and do away with all the nonsense. What we get a discounted cable bill, and medical?PLEASE
I worked out of Freeport early 2000’s Made a lot of friendships and company relationships there.I also had the privilege to work fo the late George Moore who was the mayor of that facility. Thanks for the memories and to all that are still working for Altice all the best
Appreciate your response.
To be clear, I 100% support you LI guys for having the courage to unionize.
Didn't mean to come off as combative or argumentative; was merely attempting to get more understanding of what's going on.
As you know, communication between management & employees has pretty much been non-existent, so one has to try and get info by other means.
I suspect that they'll soon close the Bronx shop (500 Brush Av)
- Continuing to lease a facility that isn't fully being utilized does not fit the "Altice way"
- 95% of the Field Service work is being done by contractors and you'd be lucky to see 10 OSP techs on any given day)
- FTTH is very inconsistent atm and can very well be scaled down or moved elsewhere.
The Union knew about the shop closing before we did. OSP & FTTH will not be affected what so ever. Parking will not be a problem due to the size of property. Just like the other post said, there is absolutely nothing the union can do about this. They were informed of it & that’s it. There is nothing in our CBA that states the company cannot shut down a shop & merge with another existing shop. Do we get same pay, benefits, work schedule, OT, DT, standby, & still can do work from home if we choose & use same trucks for all techs whether their work from home or not? YES!!! Please try & understand guys that the union cannot tell the company how to run their business. As long as Altice is abiding by what is in the CBA, there is really nothing the union can do. And yes, 1049 is recruiting the Suffolk depots that are in their backyard. It’s only a matter of time before all of Long Island is 1049.
"Union has nothing to do with this"
shouldn't be so quick to say that.
- Are you 100% sure that management isn't looking to change the terms & conditions of your employment after the move? History has shown that they cannot be trusted.
- Union should at the very least be made aware of what's taking place.
- how is OSP & FTTH being affected by this move?
- is there adequate parking for trucks moving over?
- has 1049 been organizing the other LI shops?
Union has nothing to do with this. The lease is up & Altice does not want to renew it. The Home Depot will now takeover the property as of January 1. The union cannot force/tell Altice to renew the lease & stay there. Nobody will lose their job, they are now going to have to commute an extra 15-20mins to Bethpage. I just want to make it clear that Altice is NOT forcing anyone to do work from home. They are simply asking techs if they wanna do it. It is NOT MANDATORY.
I don't like unions neither, they are bullies but how do you fight bullies? You fight bullies with bigger bullies and altice is toxic to customers to employees and to management. So looks like it's better to go with a fight then going out with your tail between your rear.
So what’s the big deal you keep your job but now the commute is like 20 min longer . Not sure I understand what all the union- non union talk is for ?
And a Union can somehow change the "debt fuel company" into a company benefits my needs?
Please explain how this can be achieved? Make sure to include all the legal options that are available to a union in-order for it to impose its will on a company.
If we get this type of union can we force them to give me a company car, expense account and a secretary? I think i'd like that a lot!
Let's see what happens to non Union shops that close. You wish they will be moved or get any options to work from home. Here's your pink slip have a good day and now we can sublease the place and make money. It's all about profits when your a debt fuel company.
I'll bet IBEW leadership says:
"Did we get their dues this month"?
"Can we use this to get more money out of them"?
Curious to know what IBEW leadership has to say about all this.
So all the DFH techs in NJ got their shifts moved from 7:30-4:00 to 8:00-4:30. Did anyone else have to do that there? Are they going to force you to do that?
So let me guess, We need a union to stop this?
They are asking techs if they can do work from home. They would prefer this, but not mandatory. Freeport techs were officially informed of this on Friday I believe. Only field service for now are being asked to do work from home. Mgmt said that if we get a ticket for parking commercial vehicle in our driveway then that tech will no longer be able to do work from home.
How exactly was this news communicated to the techs?
So all techs will dispatch from home? Even construction?
