We had new layoffs in North America of long time employees who have made Ciena what is today, a global leader in Telecom. It is mostly concentrated in Finance, IT , HR and Engineering teams. Our management is laying off the best of our colleagues and outsourcing their jobs to India. Many of these folks are close to retirement age and this smells and feels like real age discrimination process. It has been happening consistently for the past two years and it all comes from the top of the company. Our CEO and CFO have decided to sent our jobs to India and hold absolutely no emotional connection to North American workforce who made them millionaires.

It is their stated internal policy to ship as many jobs as possible to India and Mexico to improve profit margins. They do it every year specially towards the end of 4th quarter that is end of October. Additionally they have brought in wasteful and useless people from Cisco (CIOs erstwhile friends and friends of friends) whose only job is to behave & act like the managers/efficiency consultants in the movie "Office Space". Unless you are connected to upper management or a s— up you will most likely be used as a napkin only to be discarded when the use is over.
