Just 15 min ago I overheard a conversation between 2 Execs in Engineering. The gist is that the business is seriously hurting and cutbacks are coming in January !! I am getting my resume out to employers now to avoid the increased competition a couple of months from now.

Mass demotions of level 8 to 7 is what I heard from a Director friend of mine that recently retired. Those without direct reports are expected first to receive demotions (Like Program Managers)

There are no cuts planned but there they are planning to make a plan to make some cuts.

Is everybody not driving an autonomous EV yet? Didn't Mary Model T Barry say that was going to happen by now?

I heard cuts are needed to fund UAW agreement. Time will tell. Merry Xmas. Thank your union folk for doing a great job napping on the job. Benefits for all. 11K checks are in the mail. It may be your last.

No more cuts right now; especially for IT. Unless there is major restructuring, the attrition rate has been relatively high and you may see hiring before firing.

Not to mention shuffling the deck, closing Powertrain GPS and moving people to Warren, an absurd amount of waste, time and energy.

I was angry after I was laid off in my mid 50's. Now after TAA and their package with Grad School and other big companies after me I feel ok with what they did. The downsizing was sloppy and more of a save your [email protected] effort based on good old boys wish them the best. The one thing I am excellent at is predicting. Mary Barra made huge mistakes not only in releasing talent but also in future markets and taking her eye off the ball.

An autonomous and electric future is not now, and she forgot the company works for its customers. When we don't want GM anymore there are better brands out there at 1/2 the price like Toyota.

Why healthcare ? I'm not sure I understand.
Maybe I need to read and research because I haven't heard anything about health care.

Reduce all expenses and you can live on a cheap paying job. I'm down to my last 1200 dollars and my car is paid off. Will probably keep it another 5 years. No matter what I think layoffs will happen, not only at gm but other companies as well it's inevitable. At this point, there are other decent paying jobs, I think the auto sector is going through a major transformation, competition is fierce.. Nursing might be ok as a backup career, but at some point healthcare is going to get hit, and hit hard. You can see it's going to be the leading subject in next year's election.

There are no more planned salary cuts. This is heresay. Regardless, GM will no longer be a key player in the global auto industry in less than 10 years. No need to file bankruptcy they will keep laying off this time. Get your IT skills up and go back to school for nursing. Non computer and Electrical Engineering in the midwest will be toast
