Victim myself 3 weeks ago. Out of the blue, and the claim was no budget to continue the position (in the face of outstanding Q2 results, mind you). But hey, they sure were nice enough to give me the "opportunity" to "apply" for internal positions during the 60-day notice period (which happens to be the two slowest hiring months of the entire year - Nov and Dec). They do nothing to help keep people caught in RIFs - they put it all on you to find your way and hopefully get hired internally. Let's not forget it takes Medtronic usually 2 months to as long as 4 months to fill positions, so the likelihood I'll get one of the 2 internal positions to which I applied, before the 60-days are up, are slim to none (especially during the holidays)...
I'm not surprised. We're just numbers to them. Length of service doesn't even matter. I was with MDT for 18 years and they dumped me without batting an eye. Now, they're a juggernaut, accountable only to shareholders.
