I keep seeing rumors online that Mattel is getting ready to relaunch the Intellivision video game console for Christmas 2020 to go head to head with the PS5 and next Xbox. Supposedly it'll be running an AMD CPU chip set based on Ryzen with 8x cores; 7nm Zen 2 and a custom AMD Navi GPU, that supports ray tracing at a hardware level so it sounds like they're not messing around when it comes to the hardware. That being said I've also read that it will be a plug and play retro mini console similar to the SNES mini and PS classic, which to me makes way more sense given the current state of the home console market. Anyone know any more deets?

Jeez, I can almost believe that Goodie would push internally to resurrect the Power Glove. He was involved with its development circa 1990. It was an overhyped disaster and discontinued within a year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g8JiGjRQNE
They need to get the Radica, Fuhu and Sproutling teams on this STAT. If anyone can bring state of the art tech to Mattel's product line it's those guys!
Mattel will reintroduce the nintendo power gloves in 2021 which will be of use to no one, won’t work with anything and will completely miss the mark because millenial marketeers who are childless and do not own cable and only use instagram to keep in contact with the world have absolutely no clue whatsoever as to what is trending besides what a girl in a bikini on IG dictates is the hot skin care product.
Mattel doesnt make sh–ty tech toys, they pay others lots of money to make sh–ty tech toys for them...
Mattel sold the rights to Intellivision in 1984. Those rights has passed through several different entities. This new console if being produced by the latest owner, Intellivision Entertainment. Mattel Inc. has nothing to do with this.
Ah Mattel. Late to the party as usual.
That's a bummer that it's just a remake of the original system and not a brand new state of the art console, I would love to see Mattel get back into that segment they help pioneer all those decades ago.
It is more interesting that Comcast and Universal will buy us
Mystery solved. Some fanboy unrelated to Mattel has acquired the rights to use "Intellivision" on a new retro console next year. Not early as interesting as all the idle speculation here. Unless Ynon gladly pays this guy millions today for the movie rights tomorrow.
Ynon, why not make a movie about this interesting day at Mattel? I'll pay $15 to see this on the big screen! https://news.softpedia.com/news/toy-maker-mattel-loses-3m-in-bec-scam-then-fights-for-it-and-gets-it-back-502401.shtml
This makes ZERO sense, which is exactly what Mattel would do. Jump loudly and ignorantly into a fiercely competitive category which we know nothing about. Just the kind of sensational PR that our innane leaders lap up. Although a proclamation like this is more likely to be saved for announcement at NYTF, as with our other techy vaporware products (Thingmaker 3D printer, Aristotle and Sproutling). Actually Sproutling did appear briefly, just long enough to irritate parents and their baby's skin.
Think I'll grab a bunch of cheap domain names lke intelivision.com, .org, .us , etc and sell them all to Mattel for exorbitant prices. Since they have 20+ million dollars for each & every failed C-suiter abandoning ship, I should be able to cash in big time. Thingmaker.com has already disapppered from the last debacle.
Fake news. We would hear about an Intellivision movie first.
Mattel is no good at making Apps much less at making a gaming console.
But a good way to lose money so it may be a possibility. Maybe one of the Video gaming greats joined the BoD. I don’t think so.
All lies and/or wishful thinking. Forget the hardware, if there were any truth to it , the rumors would be what IP (games) we have. GTA, Fortnite, Call of Duty etc. Without content there is nothing. All the good IP is sewn up and not about to jump ship from Xbox/Playstation to take a longshot chance on dying Mattel.
And NO ONE wants to revive the name Intellivision. What a cluster fulk that was.
It's an interesting choice going with the Ryzen CPU, what AMDs been doing with these Zen+ microarchitectures is really pretty groundbreaking, especially when you consider the price value. Who would have thought the CPU market would still be so exciting going into 2020! I hope this turns out to be true, Mattel could have a real contender on their hands assuming they get their launch software lineup right.
