Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Voluntary Early Exit Program Who's jumping ship?

So what is your take on the VEEP offering to the U.S. based upper management tier?

Will these positions be filled by non U.S. people?

Will there be mass layoffs after MGNT get their golden parachutes?

My coworker took it. He is skipping around now. I wish I had 2 more years until retirement.

Deadline for VEEP has ended. Anyone go for it?

Any director with any substance or integrity has left long ago. What is left is a bunch of hiney kissers fearful to express an original opinion much less support a position based on facts and data.

I am at a age, I would gladly take the veep, but Seagate likes to s— as much out of you as they can. My question, why do we need so many directors. It is interesting to watch them show up for VP meetings, otherwise gone. Lots of them are just enjoying the ride. Never can help, no clue what is going on.

VEEP is not over. The deadline to accept it is over. In two weeks it will be known if your VEEP request is accepted.

They could cut 30% of 160+ and the company would still be top heavy. The small number doing the work are supporting so much top weight. Bout time it be right sized. Expect big efficiency gain just by reducing management conflicts

Not this round. I think this one is to free up positions for promos to key 159 players.

It used to be grades 159 and above.
Has that changed?

Unfortunately the scheme does not appear to reach out to working level.

VEEP is definitely a better deal financially than layoff . From my personal experience, I was offered VEEP - $75k+ 2 weeks per year of service. I did not take it. A few years later I was laid off. 2 weeks per year of service. Net loss $75k.
Long story short take VEEP

These VEEPs do not happen very often. I can only recall two before this in many years. If it looks good to you I would take it. Not likely to happen again soon.

Regardless of the results, why not act like you would act to your children?

Would you want your children to know the variables that determined the situation for underlings?

Should you lamplight? Would you lamplight your child? Does that behavior seem worthy of redemption?

Trying times make weasles of mice and men.

Mafia ethics is don’t mess with the money going to the top or put it in jeopardy. Beyond that you can sell drives to tyrants to use them suppress and k–l people and if it makes money they will take it. Your buddy must have messed with the money somehow.

The layoff is going to be huge and a little bird told me the ranking lists are done already. They plan it out ahead by months folks. There will be layoffs every year if not more frequently. See other posts about company 5 year shrinkage plans. A notice about VEEP is basically a megaphone announcement that a huge layoff is 3 months out. So, don't be shocked, surprised, stunned. Go read the 5 year plan again I posted.

VEEP is to simply to lower seagate's risk leading up to a layoff. If stx lays off too many older.men they are at risk for litigation that showed they targeted older people. So make some of it voluntary and keep the age minimum high to get some off the rolls and then go bigger at RIF time. The next will be big if they are doing a VEEP first.

WTH x 2. Your boss can veto your VEEP acceptance?! I've never heard of this being done before. So how's that work relationship going to be after a veto? Ha! Not well! This is the most unserious kooky off kilter VEEP ever. Well done Seagate

WTH? If Seagate really wants to get volunteers:

  1. Lower the grade requirement
  2. Drop the age limit
  3. Decrease the time employed

I will be shocked if there is no significant layoff in the next 6 months. Historically, the verp is followed by a layoff.
