Sisters and Brothers, as you know by now, the contract for the Vermont Service Center has been awarded to a new company called Sciolex Corporation. Oryza has notified the Union that they will not be filing a protest over the award of the VSC contract so it is very likely that, absent any protest from competing bidders on the contract, that the transition to a new employer will take place much faster than we have historically seen at our shop. Sciolex is set to take over the contract on December 1st of this year.
The Union has filed notice that we seek to negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement and is in the process of electing our negotiations committee. Naturally, our Union wants to preserve and improve our wages and benefits to provide for dignified lives for our members and our families. We will be circulating contract surveys for you all to fill out to identify your priorities in the coming negotiations. Please take time to complete this.
The Union’s SCA coordinator, Zach Knipe, will be coming up to our Union office to hold an informational meeting on October 19th at 11am to answer any questions about the transition, the new contractor and the negotiations to come. We encourage all members to attend, get informed and get involved.
