Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

HP layoffs 7,000 to 9,000 people (13% to 16% of the total workforce)

Here we go again.
It never stops.
They will now increase executive bonuses, starting with Lores and Fieler.
I'd bet it'll be 9,000. We'll see what happens.

  • HP to slash 7,000 to 9,000 jobs over three years as part of major restructuring
  • Incoming CEO Enrique Lores and CFO Steve Fieler lay out a financial road map for the company’s fiscal year 2020
  • HP Inc. on Thursday announced a major restructuring that will eliminate 7,000 to 9,000 jobs over the next three years as part of a series of moves to transform the computing giant into a software and services powerhouse.
  • The boldest move is a job reduction of up to 13% to 16% of HP’s 55,000 employees worldwide to save $1 billion in operation costs. Those savings, in turn, would be invested in software and services as HP HPQ, -0.06% attempts to “reinvent business,” Lores said.

When you are one of the last ones to the party you are never a "powerhouse", you are relegated to the "also ran" category.

The days when HP's Inkjet Printer Divisions were money printing machines are long past. I remember when VJ came to Fort Collins and warned us that was going to happen. He used an anecdote with his daughter, about how she never opened the box her DeskJet came in, as she had no use for it.

Those days seem so long ago (because they were).

I wonder if the layoffs are related to the failure to create a viable VR product line.

But it's bold! Mainly because there isn't anything else they can do.
