Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What happened to this site !!!

As of late all I see on this site is the bashing of At&t ( by employees, ex-employees, and customers) with very little viable lay-off Information. Majority of the comments that show AT&T in an unfavorable light get upvotes, while any other perspectives receive a down vote. I am a current AT&T employee (Ex I&R and currently U-verse tech via surplus) and no I do not like the direction that Company has chose to take, but I am only an employee. AT&T’s responsibility is to pay me for the work performed and Nothing More (my time for their money) if I am unhappy with my situation it’s simple I’ll find another job. I know that this thread is going to receive many down votes for the reason I stated earlier but that’s expected. If possible can we please use the site for what it was intended for Which is to provide perspectives and information pertaining to layoffs to provide possible affected individuals the opportunity to prepare in advance.

Besides an outlet for the frustration many are experiencing, T needs to be bashed. Randal and the Board of Directors has trashed the company with it's decisions and they have yet to be laid off. Your overlooking the poor financial decisions they've made. Employees have gone through decades of changes and outsourcing. At one point, I had to interview for my own job in IT and was asked if I'd take a salary downgrade. What for? So Randal can get more money. Take your comment else where.

A better analogy is that Randall thinks the family dog with matted fur is a step slower fetching his balls for him. It's time to put him down and go find one of the younger puppies with nice fluffy fur and bright shiny eyes that will jump at his commands to surround with all the other new puppies from the puppy mills.

I think this site is very therapeutic for employees dealing with the daily frustrations of what they see going on all around them as well as the heightened stress level of not know if they will have a job in a month or next year. Also, employees who have been outsourced are plentiful and posting their concerns or positive advice over what life is like after outsourcing or being laid off. As one person said above, if you do not like the site move on and don't post. As far as the T bashing going on I agree it is not necessary but again employees are obviously upset and feel somewhat helpless it appears. It is like being a good wife and partner in a marriage you thought was great for 25 years. The marriage suddenly goes bad and you find your husband is putting you out to pasture and replacing you with the next younger shinier thing. To boot he has squandered or hid the family savings and can't afford to pay decent spousal support.....silly analogy I know but just may not be too far off.

Employees are disgruntled. Customers are unhappy, just [email protected] AT&T Facebook page comments. Investors have become weary. There is one common denominator, [email protected] AT&T.

Lay-off info makes it here. Everything else is filler time. Keeps you coming back.

@ ynf, well said, excellent observation, and I agree with your statements. I believe at this time there is an equal mix of Union and Management, and that is why there seems be be a ying/yang balance on up and down post votes.

My two cents on the topic:

  • if everything is fine, you'll never search internet to find info about AT&T
  • if you are frustrated, and there is no other avenue where you can express your frustration, you will find a forum for it - many find this site to be that outlet
  • after 20 years here i'd say the split between happy/neutral/unhappy folks here is about 1/3 each. if you look at arrows up and down on your post you will see they are evenly split - so, i think things on this board reflect the situation on the ground
  • use this board as a gauge, not a source of truth, it's an anon board, there will be some exaggeration, whining, etc. yet, if you see that a 5 hour old thread has 10k views rest assured something big is happening - that's where i find this site useful (also helps if you need a quick answer for anything att related as there will always be 10 people ready to respond immediately)
  • probably the best advice i can give to anyone: if you feel the site has no value just move on, you will be much happier. it works for me so i visit daily since 2015, it's a personal choice
  • good luck all :-)

The company’s performance is directly connected to employee’s working conditions and perspectives, so I don’t see a reason not to comment the company’s business moves. Guess T is not making a lot of brilliant moves nowadays, hence, not a lot of praises.

Thanks for lecture on how we should be posting to the site. Att is a cesspool and is not like other employers.

Well, for one AT&T has changed into a debt driven, megadownsizing, top heavy repeat of the Armstrong days at T classic. For another thing the executives have discovered the Joys of a new way of doing layoffs. You just sell the whole plantation, slaves and all. No muss, no fuss, no severance. In a year the new owner tosses the slaves overboard and life for the fat and happy executive class goes on. Evil seems to be the only area of innovation in financialized AT&T.

This forum is mostly visited by people who can’t move on with their lives after being layed off or retired and non-AT&T trolls.

As far as upvotes and downvotes it’s easily faked. Just bookmark the particular thread and revisit it in a private browsing session to vote again.

I think at this point in time, it's devolving into this bashing business, because in my opinion "The Company" is doing a very good job of preventing leaks. It seems when they do delivery news to an area getting outsourced, or surplused, etc, it's a genuine surprise of late. They've gotten good at compartmentalizing the juicy stuff, the less than L3+ don't know, the L4+ feel powerful by not letting loose lips sink ships. I think they get off on the element of surprise with terrible news, being nasty like that is a part of that AT&T culture.
