Unilever is also laying off most of it's IT staff from Port Sunlight where Lever Brothers started production back in the late 1800's. This site basically had all of the IT talent and most had been with the company on average around 15 - 25 years. These roles are going to India where significant savings can be made when yu consider non management role packages are around £57k compared to less than £2k per annum in India.

If you're based in India IT might be a good stepping stone to a better role somewhere else, noting you'll be treated like dirt, won't be able to raise any escalation without reprisal from management and expected to work without sleep when management discover one of the many complete c—ups and try to hide the evidence.

On the plus side, they messed up so royally, bribed them with ease for an extra 10% as part of my leaving package to stop me writing to the CEO.... RIP Unilever

Unilever is shutting down it's office in Shelton, CT. This impacts approximately 500 employees across Customer Service, Logistics, Vendor Management, Deployment, Deductions, and Revenue. We were told last week that almost al jobs were being outsourced to Genpact in Bangalore, India. Any jobs left over were being relocated to the new "Supply Chain...buzzword....buzzword...
Hub" at the Englewood Cliffs, NJ hub.

To avoid calling them 'layoffs', we were all told that roles in New Jersey would be made available to us. We can't provide disposition until 02/14, will be outsourced any time from 02/14 to 04/15, and have to stay on until the company says so (Q3 - Q4) to get any semblance of severance. No pay differential, and work from home privileges are expected to be revoked immediately.
