Why swear our store is not closing just a few weeks ago and now drop a bomb on us that it is? How little do you have to think of your employees to treat them like that?

Totally agree. Closing store locations is a business decision, but being dishonest about it to the store employees is not. That reflects on the corporation's ethics and how they view the worth of the store staff.
The company handbook states that the company strives to maintain open an honest communication and that is what is expected from associates. Too bad, that honesty doesn't flow both ways.
So you don't quit before they can offer you a package to stay.
