I have seen that a lot of these these seem to focus on the IT department, however, RIF is impacting every department. And believe this, RIF has been happening every month and will continue. The leadership has one focus and it’s $$$$$$. Anthem is the BULLY of the industry, they love to play big bank take little bank.. over the past 15 years this company has been in a downward spiral when it comes to integrity, customer focus, valuing their employees, etc. This company is 100% about the almighty $$$$. The impact of their horrible decisions will come to light. I was part of the October RIF in GBD and it was almost like a 200 pound weight had been lifted off of my breaking back. I spent the last 9 months working 10-12 hour days and my director still wanting more. There is light outside of Anthem.. it may seem like a horrible break up in the beginning but you will find it could possibly be the break you needed! Cheers to RIF, had it not been for RIF I would have continued to work myself to death for this Bully company that s—s the life out of you!!! RIF aka Relax it’s freedom..

I was RIF’ed in June after 15 years (12 or so of them were great. The last 4 not) and yes, it does feel like freedom!
Anthem bills customers in US dollars. Since the outsourcing, US consumers have not received a discount. They are slowly destroying the US economy as they chase away young people from an IT career.
This was in the Humana layoffs article. May not be the only reason, but part of the reason. Of course, the lower trump corporate tax rate would more than pay for this, so it is not an excuse.
One reason for the cuts then is suspected to be the same this time around — the anticipation of a $1 billion, non-deductible health insurance fee, or HIF, that the company must pay in 2020. The charge for health insurance companies under the Affordable Care Act had been lifted this year, but is set to return in 2020.
RIF’s are happening at most insurance companies this year & will continue. Humana laid off 8% of their employees at the end of October which was around 840 employees. They are outsourcing many departments including nursing case management. There seems to be no such thing as job security anymore. It’s very sad.
I agree with @12ljDPe2 100%. Anthem is all about the bottom line now and don’t care about their employees or customers anymore. I am with IT and just waiting on my number to be called and I’m out a here. Managers are now asking again as to who will be willing to move to the different IT Core location and Atlanta is one of them. I gather not a whole lot will be moving given there is no guarantee that you won’t be laid off even if you decided to move. I will be having my one on one meeting with my manager next week and won’t be surprised if an HR rep gets invited. Anthem really s—s !!!!
