Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

You are not safe!

This company is going down and the Executive are basically milking the hell out of it. Bunch of thieves and no real respect from clients. The funny thing is all clients know how this company is sinking and the sales folks still required to sell!! what a tough job! If you arent connected to someone hi up, your work ethic, skills, encouragement, certificates, educations wont save your a–. you will be out in one of the layoff waves PERIOD. And dont say no I am different.

Agreed, @12VR0pMg-9utn. Everybody needs to realize this - you are not safe!

Say Good-Bye to the Network - After all these years and you'll still don't know what you've got, then Outsourcing is the simple answer....let it become their problem.....so sad!

WARN act - Mass Layoff Trigger: An employer must give notice if there is to be a mass layoff
which does not result from a plant closing, but which will result in an employment loss
at the employment site during any 30-day period for 500 or more employees, or for 50-
499 employees if they make up at least 33% of the employer's active workforce.

I am not sure what sales kickoff you are referring to. But being inside the company I know if anything sells and we were lucky enough to convince the clients we are not as bad as the news says about us, then it is all going to be nothing more but lies. We literally do not have the capability inside the organization to execute simply because leadership are acting and not being truthful to their staff who actually do the work. Look how much the executives make nowadays after filing for chapter 11 and yo will understand what I mean. This company any exec would take his position to get as much cash as possible out of the company and forget about anyone else in the company. It is really bad and no way around it if all the mid management and the staff members feels it and already know they can be out in matter of days..
Does anyone know if they are bound by law to give 60 days notice to the employees effected by the layoff ?

Once upon time, people loved Sungard AS for the amazing and talented people who enjoyed working there. That fact alone was a big (huge) driver of both new and existing business. Along the way, Sungard AS invested (million$) in all the wrong products and services (Managed AWS being the latest) while simultaneously de-invested in the folks who made Sungard AS. It's a classic recipe for disaster. Absolutely poor leadership at the top for years (by design?)...they did a great job of bankrupting the company.

For YEARS the company has had no idea what or who it wants to be ... like I said, absolutely poor leadership.

Colo, Network, Security, Managed Services, Private Cloud, Public Cloud (yes they tried that!), DR, DR in Cloud, Managed Recovery, etc. ... surely no lack of attempts, but no vision, no niche, no wow factor.

@6bro+137roFda. We were never in the Cloud Race, we've always been so far behind everyone else. Product hear a buzz word 'Containers, Microsegmentation, blah, blah, blah', our customers must need/want it! Quick lets play with new toys and create something nobody wants or needs! How much investment has been wasted over the years??? :-(

Can the previous poster please provide more detail around the following?

"Network people are next. They are figuring out how to outsource the network, so there will be more lost jobs."

Agreed on Product and HPC, we lost the cloud race years ago.

Can sungard still even be considered a US company at this point?

This is 100% correct and there is evidence of it. Network people are next. They are figuring out how to outsource the network, so there will be more lost jobs. No way an outsource company will take all the people. Wander around the sales offices, there is no activity. Products continue to not sell. Customers have no interest in the products when they can get cheaper and better elsewhere.

Sungard continues to invest real money into products that are complete dogs. Why invest more and more money into products nobody wants? How many years has HPC been around and we have 20? 30? customers. If this was the greatest thing ever created (according to JP) we would have hundreds. K–l it.
