Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

Vice President __________

What’s next on the laundry list of newly promoted/hired Vice Presidents? We attend meetings all the time where operations keeps telling us to NOT get wrapped up in all the VP’s we keep hiring and focus on “running great stores”. How can we “run great stores” when these new VP’s keep soaking up all the company’s payroll??? Or, what about all the ridiculous “Project ______” programs that keep wasting resources on? Why do we need people running projects to tell us to stock cat food inside cardboard boxes???

What about Workday, nobody in HR can figure out how to use it to hire people! We keep loosing more and more employees but HR hasn’t hired anyone to replace them with! Workday is just another great example of Giant Eagle buying Magic Beans, which won’t amount to anything other than another failed attempt to “simplify” our jobs that have only made it substantially harder!

This place is such a joke anymore! Between ridiculous VP’s, unnecessary “Projects” and inability to hire people, wonder how long before we close the doors to what keeps us in business, RETAIL STORES!

I sure hope SOMEONE will read this and add to the comments, this place needs to hear us since we can’t speak up for fear of retaliation! Say all you want, but retaliation is absolutely REAL at Giant Eagle!

What a joke this place is! They keep hiring executives and cutting hours in the stores where they make the money to pay these executives! What sense does this even make!!

I was told from a very reliable source that they were looking to hire someone as the “Senior Vice President of Supermarket Shopping Carts”, I just can’t seem to find the job posting to apply??

Anyone hear about this and know when it will be available to apply for??

I mean, I wouldn’t mind being a VP myself if this is accurate!

I'll second that–you would be amazed at the Friends and Family at director level and above. Many unqualified, and continue to s— at the teat for decades. You never see any of them get the axe or asked to take a buyout.

Amen! Rather than Safety and “Customer” Service being our two most “equally” important topics, it should read “Nepotism” and “Retaliation” instead!

It’s amazing when you find out how interwoven people are in this company, bound by blood, and how quickly they succeed into executive roles without any qualifications. Meanwhile everyone else spends their working life scratching to get ahead only to be pushed back down.

And full disclosure, I’m not someone who’s been pushed back down, but I sure as heck seen it happen over and over and over again!

Retaliation is absolutely real in Giant Eagle. Look what they do to Store Managers when they speak up. They make sure that persons commute is over an hour long. I know the owners daughter wants to believe she runs an honest company but that is far from the truth
