Just letting everyone know that I consulted with an attorney. It’s a worthwhile discussion even if you think nothing “wrong” or “illegal” took place.
I was told that, in these mass layoff situations, companies and their attorneys are very very careful to not open themselves up to litigation. They will decide to let go of a bunch of older people but then deliberately pick a couple younger ones just to avoid discriminatory allegations. They will do this across ages, genders, and races.
If they try to change for your end date, or try to wiggle out of paying your severance - for any reason- call an attorney. They put stuff into their letters and releases that benefits them but is also questionable. They rely on people just s—ing it up and not pushing the issue.
