You obviously lack the understanding of what equity is and can be used for. And btw, you can pay a law firm a couple hundred bucks to have your tax bill lowered. My tax bill hasn’t gone up at all. Lack of education seems to be one of the biggest problems on this message board.

Value of house going up doesn't benefit you until you sell and move out of the area altogether, if you stay and pay taxes on it for another 20yrs you have no benefit and if you sell and move to a new neighborhood nearby, those houses cost even more too, so your home value doesnt help anyone until you move far away or your kids inherit it

Are taxes on your home increasing because of the tax rate, or value of your home? If it’s the value of your home, then that means you should have more equity ($$$) in your home. Hard to argue against your point on eating out since I’m not aware of where those facts are gathered. But I doubt you eat out enough to increase your cost of living by more than 1%. If you do, maybe you should go to the grocery store more since those costs are flat. Your choice. On the healthcare costs, that one is rough. It’s sad that Obamacare was created to help those who are unable to help themselves, but in turn someone has got to pay for all the people that are not able to. Denbury did have to make a tough decision to share that pain with employees. Hopefully everyone remembers that in November. Look on the bright side, your gasoline bill is about to drop significantly. After all said you may be 100% correct that since 2012 the cost of living has outpaced your income growth since you live in Plano. But the beauty of living in Plano is there are plenty of other companies to go work for.

I dont know where you live, but in North Texas when your house value keeps increasing the maximum allowed 10%/yr your property taxes do too so since 2014 you're now paying $3-5k more than you did and god forbid if you're renting and the cost of rent has more than doubled since 2010. Cost at grocery store has stayed relatively the same but restaurants took the opportunity of all the Californians moving in to increase pricing at least 10-15%. Then the copays and medical costs keep increasing every 2-3 years when Denbury makes a change to the insurance and we keep getting older and needing more doctor visits. So in summary, yes it has gotten a lot more expensive to live near Plano over the past 5-6 years

Can someone please explain a cost of living raise? Is this a raise because the cost of living goes up without making lifestyle changes, or the cost of living goes up because of a persons decisions? Just curious since inflation has been pretty darn low since 2012? I think everyone would be surprised if they look at their total income since the bust started they have outpaced the “cost of living”. This industry is incredible when times are good, and scary as can be when it’s bad. If you can’t take the bad with the good, maybe you need to think really hard about what to do next. Every person has the opportunity to make their own decisions.

I guess no cost of living raises this year... should have voted on and approved them back in January when it was a different world

I’m guessing the CK post is a joke...
But why has at least one not been shown the door? The one who’s financial decisions got us into the debt situation.

Neither. It seemed everyone was heads down around me on Monday. I suspect people are just laying low and not drawing any attention to themselves, focused on doing their job and not on rumors.
