AE & their partner brand Aerie have laid off every sales manager in the company, one for every store in a "restructuring", where 2 part time sales leads will now do the job of the eliminated full time position. At least one manager laid off at every store as a result. Shame.

The restructuring started with Sunny, and they took a lot of hours from the back of business. We had to be pushing customer service constantly, even our regulars stopped coming in because the way we were supposed to customer service was always be in the customers face. When we started accepting returns from years ago and taking anything damaged and turn it into an exchange! That’s when the company started to go downhill.
Now seeing this, I’m not shocked. AE used to be a great brand to work for, and move up. They started to hire terrible managers, and let go of their loyal teams that had been with the company for years. If you walk into an AE now you can tell the quality of clothes, and even the inventory levels are not what the company used to stand for. Everything had to be full. No one can ever find sizes in store or online anymore.
I’m very sorry this happened to good hardworking people. Sad to say their brand is sinking into obscurity with the rest of malls. I hope some people fight this b—s—, and lawyer up. Unacceptable for the head honcho to be greedy. AEO as a brand will die by this time next year.
Absolutely disgusted with this company and I will never shop there again. Who lays someone off who’s 8 months pregnant and screws them on their maternity leave but then want to say how supportive of all women. Scum bags!!
I was told by my DM that all Store Team Leaders we’re notified because of scheduling. They knew at least three weeks in advance. They were even interviewing sales leads while I was still working there. It all makes sense now. So sorry to everyone that this happened to.

Your manager acts like she doesn’t know! She knew! They all knew! Firing all full time selling managers, replacing with two part time low paying people with less skills. This company has taken a hit in the market as well. When you have top members selling their shares this isn’t good!!! I hope you all find jobs! God bless!!

I was not even an hour into my shift and was termed over the phone from the DM. Store manger swore she knew nothing, I will never believe that. I was given a month severance.
They replaced me two weeks before I was even let go I’m finding out the details now!

I was laid off just yesterday. I was shocked. Pretty sad they replaced us before we were even gone! Sh–ty company to work for! Period!!

Your store managers know. Your district managers know. They have all known for a while, so if they say they “just found out” they’re full of it. I don’t see how a company that stands for “integrity and people” can just ruin people’s lives with no notice. The whole shift doesn’t make sense, but they’re going to do what they’re going to do. I have been with AE for a long time and I have never seen anything this devastating to the people close to me and also to me. This is the shadiest thing AE has ever done. I don’t see them standing much longer when all of this goes public and all of these customers find out what they have done to the only people in the store who helped them. I really hope they can motivate a part time person to do our jobs because they aren’t easy... almost everyday I found myself doing everyone else’s job because nobody else in my store was trained on anything. They were uninterested in learning because I would always do it for them. Well good luck without me ! ✌🏻
I was laid off today. i went in at 11am then the store manager went in at 1. spoke to me in the back and said that the company was restructuring and they were getting rid of the selling managers position. i had been with ae for 4 1/2 years. this s—s
I was laid off yesterday with no notice and. NO severance. Just stated they will pay what they owe me in wages.

I too was laid off, last Friday, 10 minutes into my shift. Upon talking to connections at other locations, many Field Leadership Team members AS WELL as Store Team Leaders, knew of these cuts back in November. How atrocious that they put HUNDREDS of people out a a job with ZERO notice. Oh, but here have some severance TWO MONTHS later. How sweet, too bad rent was due weeks ago.
This was very abrupt and very unexpected. All jobs ask that we give two weeks notice before leaving in order to be eligible for re-hire. This is a move that could have been handled better and given everyone on staff preparation for this change including those of us that depend on the income. My store manager was informed one-week prior to me receiving the news. All store managers had this heads up- because the DM needed to visit in person with the sales manager and store manager together to have a witness of your separation.
Secondly; this change will affect your company and business in a colossal way. You truly work your in-store employees to the bone. The multiple software platforms that don’t cross communicate like Kronos, Zipline, Concur, AEO2GO, The Communication Center, AEO TV, the United States “library search tool” for any LOD goal, credit goals- then Back Office for Sales reports and requiring your leadership to record BY THE HOUR “sales for that hour” then “sales so far today” then “aerie sales for the hour” then “aerie sales for the day” then “traffic- how many people walked in this hour” “how many people walked in today?” “How many people did you convert” “what was the AT for the hour?” “How many loyalty sign-ups did you get?” “How many credit card applications this hour?”- this company had way wayyyyyy to many applications. You do realize how much time you waste bouncing so much important information through different applications that don’t share the same info. Waste of time and useful waste of energy especially when you broke down “cash wrap line management during the holidays with Mobile POS” ... backtracking much?....
I am very sad to see this is a global change and would not be surprised if this did turn into a legal issue since it happened during the “fiscal year” before 2020 could start its new calendar year. Strange timing to cut this position just a few days before the year end business.
Filling this position with two part time key holder positions makes no sense. You offer health benefits to all your employees- the money and time it will take you to train so many new people globally- could fold your store managers currently. You ask too much of your employees and it is clear that you are not passionate about being a quality business that cares for those that put in the work.

Let me help maybe you'll actually pay me for this. Care about your in store customers again or you will flop. Wait you already are the last two quarters have proven that. But when you focus on online e sales and not in store sales your looking for Walmart customers. Your prices dk47nt match that and you over work your in store employed by having them do 5000 jobs.

No warning I was laid off after 7 days of pto that i couldn't take during the holidays. Nice to know the newest CEO that drove our sales into the red in the 4th quarter and made two job title changes in two years and also got 57% increase to his salary in 2019 was the one making the decisions. I'm sure his family is doing alright.
I was laid off on Tuesday. I was about an hour into my shift when I got the notice and my boss found out 30 minutes before I got there. It’s a shame how a company can pride themselves on being a great place to work and they do this to their full time people with not only with a very c-appy severance package but also not offering something like the part time position to get by until a new line of full time work comes along. Unbelievable.
This just happened to me yesterday. Devastated- to not be provided other options or another position within the company is heartbreaking. This company demands too much from someone to care about doing this responsibility part time between two different people. You could have saved more time, energy and money keeping the managers you had. Paying two people at minimum wage $13; for 30hrs per week makes no sense when you had one person 40 hours making $22 per hour- you now gaining 29 extra hours of pay and an extra 4 more dollars per hour. They also told me the last hour of my shift that it was my last day. I had no warning and severance pay of $1800 after I initial a giant packet of paperwork the company will force each of us to mail in.
The learning curve for the responsibilities of the selling team leader is 4-6 months. For a part time associate- the understanding; passion- communication and consistency in leadership behaviors will fall. Customer service is a “priority” but not a tangible focus with BOSS (online orders) employees fill every morning and night during business.
The selling manager was also the talent (hiring manager) you. Interviewed, did orientation, tracked credit card business and were the sole trainer for staff development, customer service and product knowledge.
I was laid off in this cut. I received notice on Tuesday, 1/28, and it was effective immediately. Not even allowed to finish my shift. Our store was already down a manager. Unbelievable.
