As I understood it it was supposed to be 2000 for the layoff plus an additional group due to restructuring at the DBU level. I may have misunderstood it but that would be more than 2000 people.

My concern is...if it was just 2000 salary workers worldwide? And we have/had 65,000 emplyees....why are so many places in the us getting hit including hourly..they are cutting people that Provide cash flow...tells me they are really only looking for head count reduction for a short term solution to keep investors happy

What benefits? You mean the benefit of working 60-80 hours a week for years. Missing your families events because there is always a fire to put out, but management will not be the ones to do it, while expecting you to.. The benefit of sitting through sessions where you are demeaned, yelled at, degraded in front of others, lied to about promotions, and gone around to get answers that they want instead of the truth. You mean benefits like that? I would like to say this is just a single persons experience, but it is far from that.. Talk to almost everyone who left or was fired and you will find people that almost all agree that no longer being with Cummins was the best thing that happened to them. Unless you are pre-selected to be on the fast track in Cummins, you are a piece of meat and nothing more.. Getting on the fast track means you trample on others, steal their work/ideas, and have no issue marketing yourself in a superficial manner.. I loved the people I worked with.. Hated the politics and those who were only there to make it through another RIF or to just climb the ladder.. Be there for your people. Be there to make a difference. But do it with integrity and ethics..

What are these awesome benefits you will have to show me. I haven’t seen them. I get flak for just taking a vacation day.

After 7 years they offered me a 4 week severance, I guess that’s was you get from the East region. Cummins sales and service grand rapids was my location. I thought it was at least 4 months, but I was told today that distributor office staff are not on the same plan. Haha one big family!

um union members get fired from the bottom up my friend not from the most senior to the least...

by
|
Post ID: @curg+13hOKE08

I think it’s funny the neg reps on the encouraging note that Cummins will further a career. Honestly shocked...but not really. How many folks reading this note took advantage of those awesome benefits? Let’s start a poll, please. An honest question and my bet is nobody.

Yet those mouths I also bet speak speak the loudest. And I really doubt top performers at any level were let go...you are either are valuable, or you are not. Truth be told, and we all know it, the most senior union members do more sitting than working.

Give me a break folks. Or, at a bear minimum, at least provide legit example that contradicts the above. I’ve gathered all the facts, now someone prove me wrong, please. Especially those in the union.

Mic is dropped. Now someone pick it up...

With the market remaining where it is, the firings are not done.. Never call these layoffs.. There are plans in place, called Rings of Defense, for even more firings.. And those plans are being started again..

I had close to 30 years I was fully invested with the company pension/401 k And they told me I couldn’t transfer or change position or take lower pay no heads up no nothing.... all They said can I have a word with Walked to a conference room here’s your package u have questions call this number and 10 mins later I was escorted out the building having a short time to gather my stuff as they watch me like a convict. I have no words to express how hurt I was about had tears in my eyes to be there all that time never had a write up never was in the front office gave the company everything I had for 30 years and get basically let go in ten minutes and escorted out of the building sad how they can say anything about for the employees

I was outside Power Gen Sales and got let go today! 5 years in and 4 months severance. Honestly I am relieved to be done! The Sales and Service region I worked for is a mess and it was a struggle everyday to stay positive and do the best job I could do for myself and Cummins. I feel happy to be done with this company and I am looking forward to what the future brings. Cummins payed me to go away and I will happily accept that!

that is a scary thing when a company buys a business that they dont understand...

by
|
Post ID: @amqf+13hOKE08

because they are union they have to go by seniority based upon the contract.
that is whats making this so odd, they are letting go the workforce that brings money in.

by
|
Post ID: @aejm+13hOKE08

Are they laying off Techs based on seniority or salary or what? Thats weird that they would be laying off people that actually bring in money

by
|
Post ID: @aikx+13hOKE08

no Severance at this time as they are union and said that this will be for 30 days. After 30 days they will re evaluate needs and may or may not make it permanent

Tech layoffs at New Hudson and Grand Rapids I know for sure.

by
|
Post ID: @ajpp+13hOKE08

Did those techs get any kind of severance?

by
|
Post ID: @avnd+13hOKE08

What building where they got rid of some techs? Is it in Southern Indiana aka Columbus? Because how I figure is that when they do a layoff on hourly they go buy seniority.

by
|
Post ID: @atii+13hOKE08

Well they sure know how to create a workforce that doesn’t trust anything. I can’t figure out why they would want to cut techs at our location. We have overtime up and are trying to keep up with demand, they still made us lay-off 3 techs!
What the heck is going on??

Post ID: @9lfh+13hOKE08

I think truly they want to layoff 2,000 mostly in the US and that is why the RIF is still continuing. In fact exempt and managers that thought they where safe after December and this January my not be so when they go at it in March big time.

by
|
Post ID: @9yhx+13hOKE08

Remember that the RIF's were announced in November, but they had actually been going on all year. The company just never came out and admitted it publicly.. This message board backs that up.. The RIF's will continue through 2020 for exempt and non-exempt.. Plans are already in place.. If you ever hear people talking in the office about Rings of Defense, you should know that it is about RIF's.. Curious who will lose their job on Tom's staff for the Components mess.. Millions spent to create the organization and millions spent to dismantle it a few years later.. All the while most BU's knew it made no sense.. CMI executives epitomizes the old saying that there are no new ideas, only new people.

by
|
Post ID: @9rfn+13hOKE08

What I heard is that layoffs are still going on piecemeal right now. But they may have another RIF in March.

Post ID: @9nkj+13hOKE08

Remember a few years ago when Cummins started to buy the distributors out and pull them all into the fold? When Cummins then needed to build a multi-million monument office building for the DBU in Indianapolis? When employees laughed at those who said it will take a few years and Cummins will shut down some of those distributor sites? This is the standard Cummins MO when it comes to buying businesses.. They have done this to pretty much everything business they have every bought out.. Buy them up and then gradually shut them down or piecemeal them out to others.. If you ever think being bought out by Cummins is a good thing, look at their history.. You will learn to see it differently, very quickly.. Many companies may do this, but never let Cummins tell you they are there for their employees.. They are there for their investors only..

DBU layoffs to continue until end of March?

Did the mechanics and parts people also get a severance package? The hourly people

by
|
Post ID: @8ekf+13hOKE08

We did receive a severance package. We had until today, Friday, to get all of our stuff out of the building. I only know of the other branch in our region to close and that was Myrtle Beach, SC. The also closed Tallahassee, FL a few months back.

by
|
Post ID: @7ftu+13hOKE08

So did you get any kind of severance?

by
|
Post ID: @7pwn+13hOKE08

16 Branches! Where else?
Do you at least get to stay on to clean out the building for a few weeks?

Post ID: @6exl+13hOKE08

What branch were you at?

by
|
Post ID: @6vvj+13hOKE08

They came in and closed our branch yesterday. Called us into the break room at 3:00 and told us all we were closing effective immediately. I was preparing for this day for several months as I was watching trends and how Cummins operates. We were a smaller/ newer branch and didn’t generate the kind of money that Cummins wants to see. They said 16 branches were closing in the US. I’m actually relieved to be gone and am ready to start over at a more stable, reliable company. I would never feel secure working for Cummins Inc.
