Thread regarding Murphy Oil Corp. layoffs

Layoffs next week?

Heard that Tuesday and Wednesday of next week Houston based employees will be called to an individual meeting to discuss their employment future. Employees are "advised" to carry their personal belongings to this meeting

I was hoping all layoffs would be postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis but it looks like I might have been too optimistic when it comes to Murphy Oil. Can anybody confirm if this is true?

So sorry man. Houston is a double black swan and the market s—s. More and more O&G will be laying off as folks head back to the office. Some firms, especially OFS will not survive. Buckle up.

Here is the reality, many Oil & Gas companies are using the CV19 to simply have HR call with a manager on the call and inform employees of their being laid off. Why do people think these are normal times and that the old way of doing things is still the norm.
For example, Halliburton laid off over 1000 employees at the North Belt Houston Campus ALL over the phone. It was done in less than a week. I saw companies in the down turn of 85-86 call in and do mass lay offs of entire offices and never blink an eye. 'Companies expect loyalty but in reality have never given it in return.
To those Pollyanna's out there, hold on it is getting real.

Many companies are offering early retirement for 55 years old or older. I wonder if Murphy will do that.

To the clown who said he called this .... you gave very specific timing and didn’t even know we were working from home. You are a clear troll taking happiness in us closing offices and laying people off. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I call b—s— on this post. We’re all working from home, It would be an HSE nightmare to call people into the office with all the approvals needed to get them there, have them go though all their sh– and then meet with managers and HR to get a pink slip. What if someone is sick? Not saying it’s not going to happen, it won’t be next week and not as described above.
