Thread regarding Coca-Cola Co. layoffs

Is 700 the correct number?

I keep reading that Coca-Cola laid off 700 people, but it seems to me like that number is much higher than that? Anybody else feels they are lying about the final number?

  • Coca-Cola Consolidated furloughs 700 workers due to coronavirus impact

Coca-Cola Consolidated is furloughing 700 workers, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Charlotte-based bottling company cited the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for the furloughs.

The employees will be furloughed beginning Monday, documents show. The furloughs are expected to continue through June 21.

The furloughs represent less than 5% of the company’s 17,000 employees, the filing states.

Coca-Cola Consolidated has over 2,200 employees in the Charlotte area, of which 200 are now on furlough, company spokesman Brian Nick said.

Coke Consolidated, headquartered at 4100 Coca-Cola Plaza in Charlotte, is the largest Coca-Cola bottler in the U.S., according to the company’s website.

The company operates 13 manufacturing facilities and 76 distribution and sales centers in the Southeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, according to the website.
