200 + were furloughed or laid off in Canada a few weeks ago. It's very convenient for senior management to let these people go. Some were laid off. Others offered reduced pay/work-week. It's absolutely terrible how the organization changed over the last few years. Many reps with 20+ years of service were let go last May. Then they started to hire "interns" and much younger, less expensive reps. The organization is a disgrace and completely full of managers who are dishonest. If you go to HR to with a valid complaint they do absolutely NOTHING. In fact a DSM that had more than 3 harassment complaints was promoted. Company surveys where reps would rate their sales manager honestly with a low rating....G&T kept those "corporate monkeys" and laid off the managers who had the respect of their sales team. Outsourced all support teams overseas and the customer service role falls on the reps. It's a complete nightmare and a toxic environment.

This is considered wrongful termination for many reasons.
I’m in the process for submitting a report against Office Depot Austin location. I’m glad I wrote many things that I saw wrong coming from managers.

Same timing as last years (May 8th 2019) lay offs. I believe that number was 700-800, which also included several 15+ years of service quality associates.

I was let go at the Austin location. Let’s just say the directors will keep the ones who kiss a–, or keep managers who are known as perverts. Cough Cough David Reuter

no clue how some of these parasites survive here for so long. know at least one 20+ year employee who never got promoted above sr mgr. person is a huge s— up and politician. when its time to layoff, person always gets rid of the competition. funny how things have never changed around here

When I hired on 6 years ago we were told that these were our books of business. We were to run them as we saw fit. After the failed staples merger things went to sh–. The on site upper management began taking relationship selling away and pushing us to use high pressure c-ap. The longer it went the worse it got. They went from hiring college grads to hiring thugs off the street and began bringing managers in from outside. They started having a matrix for how many minutes you should speak with a person. Even during covid we were chastised to have long conversations or we were asked why our customers arent answering our dials.
It was a guy punch yesterday but I feel relieved today.

I was abruptly let go yesterday. A few weeks ago, several people from Business Services were furloughed. In that same division, a lot of folks were let go yesterday, though not the same folks that were furloughed. I'm not that disappointed; things haven't been the same since the Depot/Max merger, and it feels like the quality of work life has been steadily declining as of late.

Right at 200 people in the Austin office had their jobs eliminated. The managers used this as a way to get rid of people who they had not been able to by other means.
