Somebody mentioned this in another thread and I couldn't agree with them more: there was no need for these layoffs. The company simply wanted to get rid of as many people as they could (which they've been trying to do for a long time now) and they used the current situation as an excuse to do it. Despicable.

Under the guise of Covid could not have come at a better time, as they already announced laying off 13,000+ employees earlier in the Spring.
Just another day in the life of Office Depot. Doesn’t matter how much you give, how many extra hours you put into the company. When they need to cut they don’t care who it affects, it’s always about the bottom line.
AKA - we want the shareholders to earn more $$.
They literally said on the earnings call that they eliminated the dividend. Shareholders earned nothing extra. This would have been voted on by the board of directors.
I totally agree. They call it a layoff or furlough. AKA - we want the shareholders to earn more $$. So we will get rid of some great employees and have the remaining associates handle the extra workload. Office Depot should be called out for the horrible employer they are!!!
