Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Does your manager get notified when you apply internally?

I applied for some internal positions which I was not offered an interview. My manager told me he is aware that I have applied internally for several positions. Just wondering how he knew this since I did not discuss with him.

Maybe the hiring manager discussed your application with your manager.

I was a manager and then director at Anthem for 10 years until I left in January. We do not get notified if someone on the team applies for another position, but as another poster said, you are required to let your manager know if you do get called for an interview. Perhaps your manager was fishing?

Managers are not systematically notified. Someone would have had to reach out and tell them you applied.

To poster 6buf+14dYZJXU, same boat here I've taken many classes, got certifications etc, nothing helps. I do have a degree but most definitely not the area they typically look for. I too cannot get a job internally, so I have discontinued and will let my time run out at Anthem. Sounds like youre doing the right thing going external, its rough out there the best of luck to you. Keep in mind the job postings are political and usually know who they want. Someone on the outside may be cheaper and Anthem was fresh new talent. Stay safe and healthy.

I haven't had any luck. Got replies saying I am not qualified. I have great performance reviews and been there for 5 years. I fit every criteria for the job. I was interviewed once and at the end of the interview the manager said he didn't really want someone internally as they would get frustrated and leave. I have upgraded my skillset to the most modern technology and I don't know if that is the problem. My manager even said he is afraid of developing employees because they will leave. I know there is a future there for me so I am looking externally and been getting great response.

To poster OP+14dYZJXU. This post sparked my interest. Hows the Internal applying going? Where are you located and what department are you in. I strongly believe managers are notified. Have you had any luck ?

No, your manager is not notified when you apply for a position. Someone must have told him you applied. Could have been the hiring manager or the recruiter but it is not normal process for your current manager to be notified by anyone but you. You are required to notify them if you receive an interview and even if you fail to do so, there is no consequence.

Yes, the HR system, sends an alert, just like the travel system sends your manager a copy of your itinerary when you book.
