Open Letter to Scott Ross from Stand with SeaWorld

Warning: An Open Letter to Scott Ross -

We want to take a moment to condemn the leadership and actions of Scott Ross the Chairman of the Board of Directors for SeaWorld Entertainment.

Since Scott Ross has invested in SeaWorld Entertainment, Seaworld has seen 5 CEOs. Each CEO has cited conflicts with Scott Ross as a reasons for their departure.

SeaWorld employees both salaried and hourly who have had the misfortune of working with him over the years have shared with us in private the catastrophe that he has inflicted on the company we all love and cherish.

Scott Ross squandered tax breaks and intended savings to fund stock buy back programs to self enrich his own stock position and stake in SeaWorld, inflicted drastic cost cutting measures that damaged and ruined the guest experience, laid off talented highly skilled employees, and reduced attraction maintenance to levels that are questionable at best.

During the time this was happening, we stayed silent, because while Scott Ross' greed disgusted us, we love and cherish the amazing Team Members,Trainers, Ambassadors, Employees who make the SeaWorld parks what they are. We have spent years with you, loving you, and supporting you, and we always will, because the work you do, truly makes the world a better place.

But regardless of your tireless hard work this incredible fifty year history and legacy is at risk, because one greedy man named Scott Ross, thought SeaWorld Entertainment was a calculated investment risk, he could take, cut costs and repackage regardless of the human and animal costs as long as he profited.

While executive leadership has taken a 20% pay cut, 90% of his employees took a 100% pay cut.

While he is enjoying his millions of dollars, he is asking his furloughed employees to beg for public assistance.

We ask the board, we beg the board, to please remove Scott Ross as the Chairman of the Board, and to please remove him from the Board of Directors of SeaWorld Entertainment.

When you look up the word, "unethical", in the dictionary, a picture of Scott Ross appears.

He's to blame for getting rid of the SeaWorld call center as we knew it. 10 years of my life, my friends (family, really) only to coldly be shown the door. All in the name of profits, he's destroyed lives and the company for greed. SeaWorld is but a shell (no sea pun intended) of what it used to be. It's depressing.

Scott Ross's exact words. "This isn't a f—ing funeral. I don't care about those employees. This is a business!!!" He said that verbatim at a Senior leadership meeting. He yells during meetings. He calls leadership stupid, dumb, etc....

Unfortunately he has the money to bury any public info about him (and pictures too). But one day, karma will come for him we have to believe.

This is all true. I’m glad that his name is being condemned and put into the spotlight. I have spent the last several years trying to look him up on the internet (trying to find out who this person is that is making all our lives miserable), but unfortunately he is very good at covering up his tracks.

Really good letter and its all true. Sad reality is he isn't going anywhere. He owns 35% of SEAS shares which gives him control of 100% of everything. A breakup of all the parks or an all out sale of the whole company is his only exit. With the way the markets are today, we are years away from that happening.

When the stock is in the mid $50 is when he gets bought out and leaves. Then we have all new private equity owners to deal with. He won't leave until he gets the right level of return for his investors.

Hill Path (his company) is funded by investors that give him the money to do just what he is doing. Buy a distressed accept (SeaWorld Entertainment) and pillage it for all you can. Sad reality about how corporate America works. That is what Blackstone did before Hill Path came along.
