Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

This is crazy!

I can't imagine what it will feel like if you volunteer for retirement and you don't get it. I know its legal because they wrote it that way but it seems cruel and most certainly advantageous for Enbridge to pick and choose who they want to let go. Has anyone ever been through anything like this before?

Agree 100 percent. This current approach (“voluntary”) makes the leaders look more compassionate. But they know who they want gone. And they’ll make sure it works out that way.

I doubt the way they’ve spun the voluntary departures is anywhere close to the complete story. I assume they had a lay-off planned before covid-19 hit North America and perhaps they just adjusted things to work around the current logistics of most of their workforce being at home. Maybe it was involuntary before and now it’s voluntary but with the same groups of people targeted. That would explain a lot.

Aren’t we still losing money? By the decision date, can see the numbers they need being higher than originally anticipated. Or putting those who didn’t get chosen but applied, a later departure date.

Instead of just rejecting retirements they might just negotiate an exit date further out.

I do plan to lawyer up if not chosen but I would love to know more about the realization of statutory notice violations from yesterday? What is this?

If the VWO gets too much response then it goes to a lottery. Anyone not allowed to retire is already designated as ineligible. You could never pick and choose on an individual level, it’s just not practical.

If you aren’t “chosen” then lawyer up, that is my plan. I can see several legal faults with this current approach outside their sudden realization of statutory notice violations yesterday.
