Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Overworked, not appreciated, and QUITTING!

The company provides good benefits but the expectations required of your position are like a huge carrot dangling in front of your face that you can hardly reach. Several times, you are the only employee watching 2/3 departments, by yourself, and are still expected to do your department goals. The customers get mad because no one is around to help them and the management comes down on you for not taking care of the customer. The store has a “Guilty until proven innocent” mentality and even if you disagree, they will still write you up. A lot of downsizing and position elimination has happened since the new CEO/team has taken over and when you work, you walk around wandering, “Is my position next?” You have that constant pressure hanging over your head. They promote and give raises to people who are lazy and should have been fired years ago- and they overwork and push good employees to the point where they are burned out and quit.
I had just put in my 2 week notice due to the problems at my store. They promote and give raises to the lazy a– employees who every one complains about and write up the hard workers for petty stuff. There is a click between management and employees that exists to where if you are not a part of it, you are screwed and overworked. The scheduling is a joke. They would have one person by themselves for the entire morning shift (paint) and then have three come in for the closing shift.
The company loves to point out how much they contribute to bonuses and extra help to their employees, but it is a cover up to their greedy business practices. During the virus outbreak, not only didn’t they cancel a “Spring Black Friday Event”, (like many other competitors had and cancelled), but they extended it. They didn’t regulate traffic, nor did they close as early as their competitors. They clearly begged people to get out of their house to spread the virus for their sale
Also, several part time people are getting full time hours without the benefits. They say they cannot grant them a full time status because they don’t have the labor hours to do it, but will not fill any part time openings to help.
I do not recommend making a career at Lowes, nor a full time position. If you plan to, be prepared to be much unappreciated.

Best wishes to you. I was recently laid off as a seasonal worker, and during my time at Lowes I witnessed the cliques and favoritism. My DS would dump all of the grunt work on the seasonal workers while the regulars would go off hiding somewhere. The culture there has become toxic and morale among the experienced long timers is very low.

This is just a JOB.. Dont treat like anything more. Use it for experience and move on. You are all disposable. Once SPIFF's were gone in 2012 it turned to c-ap and never going back.

The same can be said of you and how gloriously arrogant of you to think that your opinion actually matters to anyone other than yourself. First off probably less than 1% of Lowe's employees even know of this website. If you think the opinions of those on this board are so isolated I wonder why Marvin has not even once addressed the results of last years employee survey on any of his podcasts. Any smart answers to that? I'm not aware of any of the store managers in my market addressing them either. I wonder why Lowe's is experiencing an exponential uptick in customer complaints on our "new" 3rd party delivery service, centralized install office and internet fulfillment fiascoes? Wonder why our appliance sales are falling; could it be that Lowe's now seems incapable of maintaining anything even close to minimal sustainable inventory levels under his management? Do you have any in-depth knowledge of all the problems that the ADC/BDC/XDT markets have been experiencing for the last several months? My guess is you are part of the problem and probably wouldn't even know how to generate an invoice or installed sales contract, or track an order in Sterling if your life depended on it.

I would wager that many of the people posting on this board are some of Lowe's hardest working employees and are just flat out frustrated that Lowe's management is totally impotent when it comes to actually fixing ANY of the problems that are arising from all of Marvin's poorly implemented changes. Our house is on fire and apparently all you defenders know how to do is fixate on stock price. Our competitors are laughing at your arrogance and are outperforming us in almost every meaningful metric yet you remain completely tone deaf. If you really want to win the war you better start listening to those on the front lines who coincidentally are the same ones that bring in the money that likely pays your salary.

Oh look 11 people out of the 200 thousand plus employees who don’t matter agree with you. Awe such a great moment of standing together. Poor little people thinking Lowe’s or anyone else owes them something. Please leave

Buy a box of tissues on your way out Felicia. Nobody that matters actually cares.

Couldn't agree more! Another example is when you score a 10 on a survey but only the ball lickers receive a "Service Award."

I couldn’t have said it better. My store is exactly the same way. Unfortunately because they promoted so many incompetent people, these past few months have been a pure hell that could’ve been avoided. Just a little more organization, a little more leadership, and it could’ve gone so much better. But instead they destroyed us. All we get is abuse abuse abuse. It’s supposed to be a job, not a prison. They have no right to treat us the way they do.

You nailed it!!!!! Lowe’s is great at working part time employees full time hours so they won’t have to give them full time benefits. They’re also good at eliminating positions or changing them to hours that no one wants to work. Pricing went to over nights after years of being a day position. I had to take a part time position of cashier which I really did not want to keep a job. Then I was part time working full time hours . Lowe’s is definitely not the company it used to be. Scheduling there is not in anyway work to family friendly as they say. You never get time with your family, unless you consider Lowe’s your family. Marvin is slowly ruining this company just like he ruined JC Penney!

I thought things could have been better under Niblock but with Marvin at the helm there clearly is no bottom as to how far we can fall. I honestly think half of the 1+ year employees at my store would like to quite but the only thing keeping them at Lowe's is the rising national unemployment rate. I am embarrassed to say that I am a 13+ year appliance specialist that is now making less than I did 10 years ago (thanks to the allowance revocation) and now less than others in the dept that have significantly less experience and stats. I had my exit planed but the current economy is delaying the business plans of the place where I was headed. Lowe's does not reward a strong work ethic and those that have it will be continuously frustrated by all the slackers that coast by without any consequence. I wish you luck and when you look back I am confident you will feel relief.
