Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Should I call OSHA?

My store is a danger. First, we are in a state that requires everyone to wear facemasks, esp employees. But hardly any of them do. They take them right off as soon as they go into the training room, or as soon as their shift ends, or if there are no customers in the department will take their masks off. Actually, they don’t even care if there’s customers or not they just keep them around the neck like a necklace. Don’t they understand that they can get it from anyone that just because you’re an employee doesn’t mean that you’re immune? You’re more likely to infect each other than anyone else. None of the managers wear a mask, it’s usually around their necks too. Its embarrassing. They all talk loudly, and cough and sneeze openly. I’m afraid for myself. Even more afraid for one of my coworkers who survived cancer last year.

Second, is how much is broken. All of our equipment is just beat up and barely working, lightbulbs out everywhere including in the parking lot, top stock that is a disaster. A lot of people keep saying stuff but nothing seems to be happening.

Third, that’s how filthy everything is. The dust is as bad as it’s ever been, they always send the oldest and most fragile person in to clean the bathrooms, the break room is just a disgusting pigsty all the time. And nobody is sanitizing anything at all. Even if we wanted to, how could we with that stuff that eats through everything? That’s got to be dangerous too.

So it’s just getting to the point where I and many other associates feel completely unsafe and disgusted, and no matter what we say nothing gets done and when we do say anything, there’s a lot of retaliation.

I can’t quit this job because of the pandemic and an uncertain future. But I don’t wanna die because of this job either. What should I do?

The masks don't protect the person wearing it but they do help protect everyone else around you by containing the saliva particles from when you talk, sneeze or cough. The more people that where the masks the better off we are. Take case in point Japan where everyone wears masks and they have had very few cases of cornavirus with no lockdowns. Get educated. A lot of people won't wear one because they feel the media or government is making them do and and they don't want to be told to do anything. Well I say don't wear the mask for political or social reasons wear a mask to protect those around you and save lives.

Stop with the masks already, they don't protect you. If you are elderly or have medical issues this would make worse you need to protect yourself the best way you can, stay home. Stop punishing everyone else to make a small group of people FEEL safe.

Wear your mask and stay 10 feet from others. If you see a manager without a mask take their picture with your Lowe's Phone and send it to corporate so the manager can be reprimanded or fired. If everyone would wear a mask we wouldn't have the issues we do. When people talk, breath, sneeze and cough the spew droplets that could contain the virus.

Wear your mask, keep 6 feet away from non-masked id–ts and wash hands often. Forget OSHA..... their enforcement section was gutted by the new White house. Take pictures and send a copy to corporate. Let them know that they will be held to account.

Call OSHA about the equipment. Call the Health Dept about everything else. Sounds like you could probably call your local fire marshall as well because Im guessing all you exits are blocked or your toptock is too close to sprinklers too.

Why are you telling this person to shut up? Why are you assuming that they are female? Typical Lowes s-xists.

Bottom line this virus is scary. I have two family members that have it and they are both under 40. One just got hospitalized on Tuesday. I’ve never seen anyone in so much physical pain. So while I’m losing sleep worrying about them maybe the rest of you should shut the f— up and put your damn mask on, you selfish irresponsible ignorant a–holes.

Mandates are not laws Karen. Perhaps you should read up on what OSHA has to say about masks. Let me be brief: N95 mask work in contaminated environments, the do nothing for when a person exhales. Surgical mask are worn in a sterile environment, if not used as such they need to be changed every 20 minutes. Cloth masks don't even stop drywall dust but you expect everyone to wear to prevent something that escaped from a Level 4 bio-hazard lab.....

just think of how dirty your mask is after exhaling into it all day long...and all the dirty air getting trapped all over it that then concentrates and you breathe it in. or all the times you adjust that mask with your dirty hands.....if you want to call osha it should be on how your store requires a mask despite osha federal laws requiring a 19.5 oxygen rate and wearing a mask lowers that rate to unhealthy levels.

but hey....lets continue to freak out about a virus that has a 99.9% recovery rate, where most people never know they had it, and where the death stats have to be padded (dying WITH not OF) and where most the deaths happened in nursing homes and to the very old and sickly already
