I understand the situation is bad, I understand some adjustments are needed, but what's the point in lying to us? That's what I don't understand. Why call us to say we can expect to be called back and then weeks later call us again to let us know we are done. Was there a need to give us false hope just to go ahead and crush it weeks later?

What happened to all the Texas companies they bought out and the employees that stayed around. Are they all gone.
During my time in Staples Senior Leadership I heard "where are they going to go" many, many times. I also heard "if they were smarter they would be a VP." The level of arrogance is almost matched by their ineptitude and stupidity.
Let me answer the "where are they going to go" question. You can go to a good company that will value your skills, loyalty, humility and work ethic. You have proved that you care. They took advantage of you not the other way around. Do you like our industry? Find an Independent! Staples for all of their power and resources never could overcome the independents. Now these companies are healthy and ready to gain market share. You will be valued!
I don't see any evidence of a plan. The strategy is flawed in so many ways. There seems to be a need to use people who are otherwise loyal. The words to indicated care for people are hollow. People are just machines - when told to do what is needed. I hear comments such as "where are they going to go". With that mentality it will be hard to succeed and gain some trust. We are best to find a new happy place.
I completely understand where you’re coming from with this post. It doesn’t sit well with me how so many leaders will knowingly give you false hope simply for the fact that they themselves, don’t really want to deal with the confrontation. I would have rather have had them be frank so the reality set in early than to have held on to a crumb of hope. The injustice was the silence and pacifying of the situation. Give people their best chance at finding something during these difficult times instead of letting them fall behind the curve with a late start.
Because they don’t want any bad publicity. The people at the top and sp are all scum. SP has been spending money left and right but could give a damn about the employees that work for each of their companies. The ppl running the staples ship are trying to find the deepest part of the ocean to sink this bad Larry in. But don’t worry, SD will send another email saying the EXACT same thing about numbers being down, “difficult decisions”, “we will get through this together” bullish.t. But most importantly he wants us to remained focused on our customers! F.ck that guy and f.ck staples
