The other poster is correct. Anthem leadership is pushing Cloud first and mandating that GBD Facets be in the Cloud by 2023. Anthem is moving more IT jobs to offshore with goals to have 80% of IT jobs offshore and maybe up to 20% of IT jobs onshore. IMHO, I expect Anthem outsource all IT jobs by 2025. In fact, they may look at selling Legato within 5 years. Anthem needs cash and reduce its debt.
Considering I am one of the nearly 700 laid off in total, in IT this year, I would advise against it. Anthem pays well, there is no question there; but, the ever looming threat of lay-off has been weighing on the teams for years.
Anthem has recently stated that they are not an IT company and are not in the business of being IT. I am not trying to be an alarmist; but, with them stating they are moving everything to the cloud in 5 years, I would stay away.
If you are really interested, know it will need to be a calculated risk.
Bonuses can be great, however leadership does have discretion, and could potentially decide to divert part of many bonuses in order to retain one or two key people with a much larger bonus. Being a publicly traded company the owners are the stockholders, which does strongly influence decisions just as it would in any company.
If the work itself is interesting to you I say go for it, however don’t base it upon relationship with hiring manager as they could leave. I think this follows for any company- people do leave. Good Luck!
Rumors are Enterprise Architecture may be moving to Legato. Anthem has to cut costs. Almost $50 billion of liabilities will be due in 12-18 months. Company is overextended.
Your personal and professional life will be screwed up if you join. Below are the points that you need to think about.
No ethics in this company. There will be lot of stuff going on in the company on values and culture. But they will not follow. No loyalty towards employees.
Managers expect 24/7 support and you need to sacrifice all your leaves/holidays to company.
This company is currently moving all its IT work to India. So after next couple of years only VP level people will be hear and rest of the ITS positions will be moved to India. You will laid off suddenly when your position moves to offshore.
Below are some positive things -
Good bonus (more than 10%)
Good healthcare coverage
Provides reimbursement for training & certification on different technologies.
Sponsor higher studies.
I really believe he has the right to ask a question... i don't think being rude here is called for. It is understandable that no job is "layoff proof". However, this is a free country, from when i last checked. things may not be going very well right now but he has a right, as anyone else, to ask.
If you don't like his question, then move on but no need to be rude or nasty... its extremely uncalled for and unprofessional!!!!!
Only you can decide if the reward is worth the risk? You are asking a stupid question.... To ask a layoff forum if your job is layoff proof. There is no job security...Only profession security.
Are u h1b and can obey orders like good doggie ? If yes than yes u are layoff proof , welcome home brother !
Lay-off proof???? Have you ever worked in the US? No job is lay-off proof.
