Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Decisions?

Does anyone know or think that decisions have been made about store closures? All of a sudden stores are getting surprise visits that usually means something is going down! Who comes in and tells the store I always heard is was the RM and DM or is this done like everything else an impersonal phone call. Also do they try and place people into other stores

b—s—. When a store close to ours closed, the full timers were offered positions at stores over 20 miles away, so nothing was offered at nearby stores. All part timers were laid off, no offers, nothing. The only people placed in nearby stores were the SM and a dept. supervisor. So don’t come with that “we take care of our own” c-ap, because we don’t. Never have, never will.

YES! We try to place associates. I was store manager of a closing store and was able to offer a job to almost every person that was commutable to the next closest store. Don’t listen to the drama. If someone is bitter bc they didn’t offer them a job at another store, it’s probably for a reason.
And you would find out the same day that your DM and SM do.
And if that day comes, know that it’s horrifying and crushing for every person involved. Especially your SM. Their store is like a child to them.

It could also mean that those left in field leadership are doing whatever they can to justify their job.

Store closings, Dm comes in and tells management and has huddle for all associates present at the time management tells rest of staff, some people get placed mostly part-time, if your Full-time and been around for a while read the Writing on the walll.

If more DMs get laid off, good. MB (northeast) needs to go, while one of the associates in his district was in hospital dying of COVID he was cracking Corona jokes on company email while sitting at home comfortably on furlough, boasting about getting paid to drink beer. Meanwhile, his stores were being told they had to stay open and no, they weren't getting cleaning supplies.

There is also going to be more DMs that get let go. Its on a separate spreadsheet with lay offs. Which makes sense since there will be less stores.

Usually the DM notifies the store that is closing. With stores in close proximity to each other, I’m sure those underproducing stores should be worried. This is over a 2 year period and honestly not worth the stress and anxiety of worrying if your store is affected. I’m not sure they can save anyone at this point, even though they have “saved” some people from layoffs before.
