Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Saudi Aramco 2020 Vision Becomes Hallucination

What happened to the Company’s 2020 Vision? Did it turn into just another fad that the firm was chasing? What happened to the Operational Excellence Program? What happened to the IKTVA, in-Kingdom Total Value Added, program?

When all the Expat labor is gone and the Kingdom’s resources are depleted, the locals will be riding bicycles to work for the only jobs available as official wipers, houseboys, maids, garbage collectors and lawn cutters (assuming they have enough water).

The negative nonsense posted here is astounding. You were all v well paid. I think the sudden realisation that u have to face the real world is too much. Grow up. Be a man or a woman. Take responsibility and stop this cringing nonsense you are all writing. Aramco will be long standing after you and better for your departure.

Operational Excellence was not really a Process Improvement program but was more of a Operations Management program to document how various departmental functions should be performed. I went through numerous graduate level courses in both subjects and can tell you that there is a big difference. Operational Excellence was a veiled attempt to get the inept locals to have some basic job skills that they were incapable of learning; even after many years on the job. The arrogance and inbreeding amongst the locals and the management always sabotaged such programs. Nepotism would always get in the way of such programs that headed up by complete mo–ns commonly called SMEs, subject matter experts. People would win awards, even if they knew nothing of the initiative or its intent.

Vision 2030 is in hiring years! It will take them 600 years to catch up to today’s standards! Not bitter, retired and enjoying my freedom. Save as much as you can and laugh each day on your way to the bank! Expect nothing and they won’t disappoint! Great people just trying to survive without saying what they really think!

No one said Aramco's compensation was subpar, but to say its the best in the world is absolute stupidity.

The fact of the matter remains that you sell your time in the desert whoring yourself for money (me included) building a mirage. At some point, money stops being your top priority. Only then you realise that you are trapped here as your skill have atropied to a point you are unemployable back home. This couple with the increasing hostility the locals see you with in every training/meeting takes a heavy toll on you psychologically.

I understand that some who were laid off are bitter. Personally, I would never do that, I have always accepted the fact I am a visitor/resident/temporary employee. The company can cut me any time. I am OK with that. I accepted that fact many years ago when I joined. This company takes good care of me. I never saved a dime in North America and Europe before I joined. I can comfortably leave tomorrow and live happily ever after without ever having the need to work again. When I thought this company paid me a lot of cash, they come up with another incentive and called it SAIP and threw a bunch of more cash at me. And I'm supposed to complain? Not me, I love this company. I may not be in love with the country but I got to tolerate living here. There isn't another company I'd rather work for. Name one company that throws so much cash at you through RIP, the most generous 401K on the planet, merit increases, SAIP, free housing, free utilities, free repat, more vacation than I can use. I may be an exception but I have always gotten some sick OOK training, almost every single year I have been here, sometimes more than once a year. What else can I ask for? Go back to north america and do what? Give up half my salary to the crooked government in the form of bogus taxes, give up half my vacation, Free housing!!!!!!, pension what???? 9% match, are you crazy? Repat money? What the hell is that?

I do not bite the hand that feeds me. I have worked with some amazing Saudis and expats and will cherish that experience for as long as I work here.

I will keep on loading the truck and have no intention to ever work after this company. I came here so I never have to work again for pennies on the dollar. If that time ever comes when I need to go, I am fine with that. I will always wish success and prosperity to this company and the people that I worked with.

Lastly, all these disgruntled people who were laid off, other than the insults and call CNN and call your rep and do this and do that, not one proposed what they would have liked from all of this. Fact of life, the company had to lay off people, every company in the world did, some slashed salaries. Millions of unemployment claims were filed in the US in recent weeks. What did you want Aramco to do? Noone offered a solution or proposed a better way to handle what noone was expecting (pandemic, low oil prices).

All I hear is corrupt this, corrupt that, I am the best, they are incompetent, I walk on water, they have used me. Apparently, these folks have no idea what they are going back to. Enjoy working for Chevron and Amazon where the CEO's salary is 1000 times more that the average worker's. Yep, that's about right. I got nothing but depression from working in the US. Wasting years with nothing to show for other than debts and a rat race that leads to an early grave. The IRS will follow you even when you are 6 feet under.

100 % true......."If you're not in the inner circle of the boss, just forget it, you will never get anywhere... who cares about your qualifications, skills or what you provide."

The quality movement was at least 4 decades ago if not longer. operational excellence program was just another meaningless management buzz word with no real substance or value. Aramco is fortunate only because it floats on so much oil. Otherwise it would sink more quickly than the titanic.

Most of us here weren’t terminated. We just visit here to pull the handle and flush the Saudi trolls

Unfortunately, that is Aramco, a very corrupt and toxic environment. Everything they say and advertise about them is just not true. No integrity at all and just fake/useless projects and initiatives from corrupt people to keep milking it. If you really wanna do a good job, the right things, be creative, work hard and make an impact, that is just not the right place or environment to do it. But if you want to play the game, sell dreams, making-up stories, you will love it there. Everything is done behind the scenes and decisions are made in hookah parties and on WhatsApp groups. If you're not in the inner circle of the boss, just forget it, you will never get anywhere... who cares about your qualifications, skills or what you provide. Very messed up place

You stated: “What a shame....” I retired comfortably in 2017 after 26 years of service. Don’t assume that everyone here was “terminated” and I won’t assume that you are a Company smoosh just trying to save your job.

What a shame some of you have become and for what? You got terminated due to an unprecedented event beyond the control of the employer. Are no other oil companies laying off their workers?

Eventually, I'm sure my time will come, but I'll never embarrass myself and stoop to the levels some of you have done.

Say thank you, and just move on with your lives vs. spreading negativity unnecessarily.

Hey Wade... why not all of that at the same time? You clearly don’t have the requisite Aramco attitude, my friend.

It was Just another mirage on the vast desert horizon that has disappeared. A new vision will soon appear over the hot sand. An epiphany is bound to emerge from the palace magus. Perhaps a space program, electric car manufacturing, or a futuristic city. I can hardly wait.
