I hear that the mgmt is tracking team member productivity and that we are more productive since we are working from home. Does anyone know how they are tracking productivity?
Also, if they are truly tracking productivity - are they taking productivity in consideration when makin decisions on who to lay off.
I was in a department where management (former IBM employees) was indeed tracking our activities, BUT even though I was working on more projects and tasks, they decided to lay me (NOT former IBM employee) off and keep the guy (former IBM employee) who was surfing the web for 80% of the day. Didn't matter that everyone sitting around that guy even noticed he wasn't working. Didn't matter that I was doing more than twice the work of that other guy. So I would say, don't worry about your activities so much. If you're a former IBM employee, you'll be fine.
I'm curious as well. Are they utilizing the camera? Can they see your internet history when not logged into VPN? Technically you are using your own ISP, so can they see what you are doing? I'm assuming they property install something to track your keystroke, etc.
Productivity at home depends on your home set up and your job. My job is completely electronic (sw design) so it can be done from anywhere as long as I have a good set up and a good network connection. I measure my own productivity by my ability to keep up with the product schedule (which hasn't changed at all), ability to get my desirableness in on time and my ability to participate in conversations and meetings with the teams. My work is pretty transparent to my manager so he will know if I fall behind. But, not every job is like this.
Probably a BS statement of increased productivity. I doubt there is any science behind the statement. Work from home decreases commercial real estate footprint required long term. Fewer desks that Lenovo has to pay for.
Amount of time logged into and “available” on Skype and Teams would be the easiest way.
Some companies use Salesforce and Clari to measure the number of email interactions to your customers for the AE/SE community.
And how would they be tracking team member productivity? The number of keystrokes per day? Remoting into your computer to see what you are up to? Tracking your email? How?
