contractor to full time chances

i have just joined as contractor as verification engineer. i got to know that there are plenty of full times jobs opened, if so can i directly talk to other haring managers for fulltime interviews. is there any rule such since i am a contractor, i should wait for atleast 6 months outside qualcomm to get hired by qualcomm again as fulltime(intel usually follows this guideline). Please tell us your inputs?
thanks in advance

contractor status is different than a temp. A temp is essentially a headcount and is easily converted to full time. Going from contractor to full-time is less easy - especially right now with the hiring freeze for many departments.

Another hurdle is that you need to be in the contractor role for at least 6 months - the agency you work for needs to make their money - and then you can apply for a new open position. The role you are currently in will not be automatically converted to a full-time role. Also, keep in mind you will have competition for any new position opened as there will be many applicants.

that being said, we just got an email offering hiring bonuses for in-demand positions. So maybe it isn't all that bad and you may have a chance if you fit one of those skillsets.

There is no “normal”. One guy on my team was hitting the two year break-in-service when they rolled him. I was a temp for 18 months before being rolled.

Doesn't hurt to ask. There's no "right time" IMO. If they say they need more time they will let you know.

Good luck!
