HDD has no new projects in recent 3-4 years. Expected to layoff people this summer.

It's not a question of whether it's going to happen (again) or not but when. The Storage BU got hit back in February, even after a profitable Q4FY. Since the company is now strictly finance-driven (with engineering relegated to the back seat), any product with less than stellar margins or a future of mostly legacy business will be jettisoned (along with employees associated with it). HDD falls squarely in the latter category.
Not sure if this is true or not but here is the HDD landscape.
- Seagate moved to do all the HDD SOCs internal, that is a done deal
- WDC has locked up with Marvell’s competitor so no new development
- Toshiba is working with Marvell on next gen HDD but Toshiba is ~ 10% of the market and even less in nearline space which is the only new development.
This is not true.
