Thread regarding CGG Veritas layoffs

More redundancies at CGG Robertson

Daily Post says 15 or 60 to go, depending who you listen to.
The cookie is still crumbling, sadly.

From what I heard the DISKOS prices were insane (NPD not happy with them) so as usual CGG priced themselves out of the market.

More bad news:
Diskos/NDR contract lost to Landmark/Halliburton (announced yesterday).

Reality has hit Robertson. This is deeply sad, but also necessary. The industry landscape has changed so that comfortable isolation in leafy Wales, offering services at a 20th century speed and with limited resources, just wont wash. CGG may seem like the big corporate bully, but they are Robertson's only hope of competing in the new world of global interconnection, ML & AI, O&G decline, environmental sensitivity and unlimited cloud power. Great history and great people, but it couldn't last for ever in the same old way. Good luck to all involved; stay proud!

Terrible news, our thoughts are with those affected!
what is going to be left at Robertson if they are removing so many ?

They should keep the processors at home and close the main offices.

on the upside there is a new support specialist engineer in redhill. some in upper management seem oblivious to the financial crisis this company is in.

Can't wait to see what Massy does next. Probably a "PGS" and shut the Crawley office

(too soon?)

IIRC there were covenants on the CGG bailout, by U.S. hedge funds, that stopped them interfering until 2022 but I may have got it wrong. If it's correct however, I would expect them to have a good, hard look at the unionised programmers, middle- and upper-management etc. in Massy.

How to wreck a company. From Fugro OPCO of the year in 2012 with a profit of €17million PAT to obscurity. The 'you don't know what you are doing and we do mentality' has been shown to be completely fatuous. This is less to do with Covid 19 and all to do with incompetence, arrogance and an inability to listen to experience. The responsibility for the livelihood of people and their families is a significant one and needs to be taken very seriously indeed. I assume those who have delivered this misery are ashamed and also prepared to fall on the sword?
Some hope.

So sorry to all those personally affected.

I know there are larger job losses being announced almost hourly by other industries on the news but when it affects the "CGG family" it is really sad.

My thoughts are with you all.

Diskos contract is due to end this year anyway.

Am told the ~61 number is around 1/3 of the current total. That’s a massive slice in anyone’s book. The commenter who said their only significant client has been CGG MCNV is spot on and this is a direct consequence. Hold on to your hats though, cos if CGG also loses the Diskos contract there’ll be fresh rounds of redundancies I’m sorry to say.

My sympathies with those affected, but anybody sane would have left long ago.

An inevitability of truly incompetent, arrogant management (local and corporate) running this 60 year business into the ground. 5 years of developing rubbish vanity-project studies at absurd costs and k–ling their previously profitable Red Book/Tellus model in favour of something way beyond their capacity. Robbo's best client the past few years? CGG MCNV. Errr....concerning? No? Oh let's just carry on then.

Fugro, go save them!

Gosh 61 jobs. Sad to hear that.

80% staff affected... Who are the 20% not affected?

This seems to have been hinted at in Message from Sophie Zurquiyah dated 9th June 2020.

"As a result, we have no choice but to adjust our cash costs and capital expenditures in order to minimize our cash burn and enable us to get through this unprecedented crisis. With the leadership team, we have worked on various scenarios and will action these measures depending on how deep and long the crisis lasts."

So in conclusion apart from the loss of staff at Robertsons announced 11th June there are more redundacies to come.

They must have known on the 9th about Robertsons.

What will be left? Just management and overheads? Are they still running a lab? Or just waving arms?
I remember the esteemed M. Malcor punting a rugby ball towards a field full of bemused staff and them all watching it fall to the ground. What a metaphor that was.

15 already confirmed with another 46 technical staff to go at the end of the process. About 80% of all staff affected.
