I thought employers laying off hundreds of people were required to give a 30 day or 60 day notice? Why did we only get a 9 day notice? I worked at Corporate Campus and I expected a longer notice due to the amount of people laid off all at once.

Were the Trunk Club and HL — and those two dumb startups N bought that I ask about all the time — were these people integrated into Nordstrom Technology as equals, or kept in their old product silos? Did they ever stand a chance?
Did any of them move into positions out of their old domains?
So these layoffs were planned before March? Maybe with that first bad earnings, shades of 2016.
Serious bloodbath at Trunk Club and throughout the company. A lot of really great people let go. Little shocking about no WARN notification since these layoffs were planned way before COVID was around...
I’ve been gone almost 4 years— way after the loyalty to employees had gone. I’m sorry for those being treated so poorly. It’s nothing new.
I am sorry, Erik, I shouldn't be so harsh. But this is a very frightening and dark phase we are transitioning into now – there is no "V-shaped recovery" on tap, I'm sorry to say.
Those who lost their jobs this week may not find another for a very long time. Even the privileged techies, their world, too, is at a full stop. If JWN makes a reduced-pay offer to you, for the love of God and your family, you should take it. This is no time to worry about your silly title or your pride. Roll up your sleeves and save Nordstrom, if it can be saved. If you care about the company, this can be an heroic moment to do real good, like when the Oxygen project saved N from the evil corporate consultants, jeez, 20 years ago now.
The macro economy is about to get very very bad, and then it will get worse. The "recovery" since the last decade since the "great recession" was an enormous lie, a Fed-run Potemkin village.
Now watch all the zany financial leverage unwind ... starting with CMBS and moving on to corporate debt. 😱 Malls? Consumers? Fashion? No way – maybe sell guns & ammo?
Give credit where it's due – Nordstrom C-level knew what they were doing securing the cash-in-hand from lenders NOW before the window closed. In good times everyone will throw dumb money at a perennial loser like JCP or SHLD, extending their decline for what seems like an eternity. In bad times, loans get called and we spiral down.
@Bleak you should be hired back as CAO - Chief Advising Officer. You are giving ideas for free here. Might as well get paid.
How much of HR itself was gutted?
Do you – or does anyone else – really need a technical recruiter at this time? 100+ openings on the jobs site, now it's gone, now nothing. Well, the company apparently needs a new nationwide LP team to safeguard the merch from diversity – Flammenwerfer experience preferred.
GTFO to anyone who cannot create real value today right now to get the company to the other side of this. It doesn't matter if they cut "tribal knowledge" or "domain experts" on the horribly coupled and customized and crippled systems at this point.
If they really had to, they could hire you back later (for peanuts). It's not like you have a competing offer.
And no RSUs for you!
Incompetent HR, makes cowboy moves without any legal or ethics guidance.
We all think alike. I got a WARN notice today, AFTER my layoff call earlier this week. I suspect there’s a possibility they violated federal law. Now Covid could have provided an exemption but if you’ve worked there you know we’ve been downward trending anyway... so I guess we’ll see.
Nordy maybe known for customer service but it’s bankrupt when it comes to loving its people on the way out. The company forgets employees are also customers. So, let’s see who continues to buy stuff on their site or store, I am putting my $ in other sites. Show your undying loyalty by shopping elsewhere.
Well there’s had only a day notice
