Of the 500 Seagate Technology PLC employees who are being laid off this summer, 78 are based in Fremont, new data from the state Employment Development Department reveals.
The Cupertino-based data storage company disclosed the layoffs to the state on June 1 and said the cuts would go into effect on Aug. 4. Fremont employees across departments including engineering, legal and project management are affected.
The Business Journal reported in early June that the Cupertino data storage company had cut 500 employees globally, but Seagate did not reveal the local impact at the time.
Seagate told investors about the layoffs along with a plan to consolidate its facilities in Minnesota. The cuts were described as being "intended to drive additional operational efficiencies."
It actually was about 500, not 600. Some people on here post actual information. Anymore accurate and SVP of BE would have lawyers find me.
It was actually over 600 but if it matters so much that outside articles said 500 and maybe some other incomplete spreadsheets then go with 500. If you ask Andrew Dice Clay what the difference is in 500 and 600 he will say, "That's what I say honey, what's the f..n difference.
Uh, did you not see any of the news article that clearly states it was 500?
