@bfam, wow, you really are a troglodyte. You must have crawled out from under a rock if you think industry’s “predicament” is because of diversity issues. Everyone with half a brain knows this downturn is all about over production. Industry flooded the market with excess oil & gas and crashed prices. Core to that surge was the rise of the unconventionals. That is simply a fact. So, tell us please, from your alternate universe, what diversity issues had to do with that? Was it the minorities who pushed shale? No. As I recall that came out of the white guys in upper management. Besides, there aren’t a lot of minorities at Noble and even fewer in management. Plus, the “diverse” folks who are here, at least on the technical side, are all top notch. Many were key players to Noble’s successes. Yeah, there certainly is projection here and it’s all coming from you with your façade of victimhood.

Your so called people of "talent and ability" weren't. They mindlessly chased the easy play, falling in love with the sugary rush of instant unconventional production. Never mind the margins were slim, requiring high prices to make money. Never mind anyone can do it and did, crashing prices and jobs with it. No. Diversity isn't your problem @3fdg. Yes , that's awesome, @1kan, the world must change. however, "diversity of thought" is never addressed, are you the new guy? First time at a big company? It's purely ethnicity, gender, etc. Let's hire and/or keep a bunch of employees based more on their diversity rather than their ability to do the job. That way we get to hire all sorts of diverse types and we also won't be competitive with unskilled people in this rapidly changing energy and streamlined environment and end up having to let people go again. Then we can repeat the process, and lay off the non-diverse workers and keep the diverse ones. regardless of talent and ability, Rinse and repeat. Before you know it, we will be bankrupt and have no one left at all. Win-win!!!! Awesome @1kan!

As for the technical employees, again you are largely correct. On a percentage basis the female staff outperform the men. Sorry boys, that's just the way it is. (Psssst! hold your misogynistic comments, I'm a boy.) That said, as with anything else, there are exceptions. SC for example. Worst technical and leadership skills ever. To be fair, she was an executive VP, so not really a technical professional. Her case does jibe real well with the first paragraph of your post though, everything but the P P.

I’d wager that 1 chevron manager = 2.5 noble managers, regardless of ages/s-x/race/etc. Look around. This is an entitlement clown show, and has been for a decade. We’re the proof case of the Peter Principle. What would we have to lose ditching these hacks?

Also, to the poster who seems to think woman don’t possess the technical skills, Noble’s most capable technical employees are largely female, at least in my experience.

As a white guy I think it's great Chevron seeks to increase their management diversity. Chevron, Noble, this industry in general have a real problem with uniformity of management and thought. The last few years should have taught us all that lesson ("shale, shale, shale..."). Following the herd hasn't worked out very well, has it? If we're going to survive and grow we'll need new people with broader perspectives than we have now. That'll only happen if deliberate steps are taken to become more inclusive.

Sorry, it's become a cliche, but the world really is changing. Some of those changes we may like or not like, it really doesn't matter. We either change with it or get run over. Their is no other choice.

Yes I have a good friend in HR a small oil and gas company. The worst thing you can be in today’s world is a “white” guy and especially an old white guy. There will be no questions about laying a white male... nobody cares. However, If you lay-off anyone else, woman, g–, trans, minority, you better be prepared to defend your decision.

Let me give you some advice. Just before layoffs announce your g a y. Not only will it protect you from layoffs but will add a layer the company isn’t willing cross, also, make sure to tell your boss about your African heritage. (Doesn’t matter if you don’t have any)
