Anniversary Sale 2020

Previewed the Anniversary Sale this morning; the assortment looks pretty good. Some decent shoes and several nice Patagonia jackets. Almost 800 different styles across Men’s, a respectable effort.

The website looked great on a new iPod touch, very native app-like and totally responsive UI to navigate the merch hierarchy, apply filters, etc. Lots of work has gone into this and it shows. I don’t need to install the Nordstrom app on this device, will just use the site if I feel like visiting the web store.

Do I plan to shop the Sale this year? I dunno. I can’t say I actually need any of these things. The office is still closed indefinitely and I worked mostly in a pair of comfy old gym shorts and a t-shirt this week.

The cotton is starting to break down in my old Nordstrom house brand boxer-briefs, but they will be replaced with cheap ones from Costco because who cares, why exactly? Luxe retail faces this problem now, across categories.

Good luck on the sale, and if I do visit store 1, I’ll at least enjoy lunch at the cafe.

I stopped shopping Nordstrom years ago – cancelled orders, slow shipping, wrong item sent, screwed up the return/exchange, and after everything the garment just wasn't worth the price, even with the discount. Couldn't return it though because when I returned the incorrect item they took it as a return of the item originally ordered. Did I mention slow shipping? Go team!

Anon, we get an 11 before 7. They’ll get at least one chance to re-org before any liquidation, maybe several if new money can be found.

The key to Anniversary is not the sale of heavily discounted styles, it’s whether the shoppers also buy full-price merch as well. The promotional items are there to spark a feeding frenzy and better margins.

God, I wish I could see the brutal finances of the NYC FLS. The rag trade is merciless.

Last sale! Wait for few more weeks and price will drop. Nordy will be clearing all inventory before it shuts down for good

From what I’ve observed in the mall, everyone is spending their UE checks only on Luxe items; Golden Goose tennis shoes, Louis Vuitton handbags, rebrand “most wanted release” of tennis shoes

This is our clearinghouse for all things Nordstrom, anon.

This sale is tremendously important to the company and to Retail in this the plague year. If it bombs the firm could be bankrupt by EOY and looking to restructure.

Nordstrom appears to have the assortment, but how deep is the inventory? Risks abound! What do you guys make of this? Will day one be a buzz of activity, or did “pre-sale“ end that anyway years ago? Who’s shopping the Sale this year?

Will you spend your fresh UE check on Steve Madden wedges?
