Thread regarding Collins Aerospace layoffs

Huge Collins Layoffs in Canada Today

So major layoffs were made today at the Collins Landing Systems facility (commercial & military) in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. 158 employees were laid off today, approximately 10% of our workforce in Oakville. Of course since all this company cares about anymore is the bottom dollar, most of the employees let go were senior employees with 20+ years of experience. Since people and experience are the last considerations; it is cheaper to keep the newer employees who make less money. This will hurt the company in the long run. Classic Collins. As a newer employee I survived this round. One can only wonder when round 3 is going to take place.

after the lay off -people are exactly what the company wanted them to be ........terrified of being next .This was the first time that the lay off was not done by seniority and rather by management picking and choosing those who didn't kiss a-s and chose to have a balance of work and family time ..And it was a sad day when the egomaniac Rob started hiring all his bumbard -id--ts who had no clue how to deal with non union employees..instead they licked their chops and started getting rid of any one with a back bone ...believe me when i tell you that American ownership is exactly that --ownership .......11

You work years with poisons and toxins then your laid off only to have your medical benefits taken away .then when business picks up someone else is hired with no investment of health in the company and tecieves your benefits doesn’t seem fair.

So who is responsible for terminating valuable professionals six month? WHO? We badly need them now. That decision was as bad as loosing 777 Boing in the past. Time shows that he or she ( or both) should be fired for that decision. People responsible (and their sidekicks) for that mistake of terminating valuable employees will eventually be walked out of facility - it's a matter of time. Moreover why there is no attempt to call back whoever is still available from that laid-off people? Anybody from HR called them? Their data is in company files. It is continuation of bad decision and mistake , like crime in progress.
Company, in the past, had to bring "questionable" machinists from USA for ridiculous amount of money, and now is unable to call back local, proved, laid-off people?
There are some individuals who benefit from lack of machinists in form of getting ridiculous amount of overtime. "Crab_bucket" explained it in his/her comment. And "we all know who they are" - it's true. Some people benefit financially and they do not want to solve easy to fix, artificial problem.

maybe you should check out online and see how difficult it is to find millwrights and electricians at the moment and make an educated comment!

Last one feels like somebody from HR or management.
Nothing is difficult if you just try. Did you call anybody? How can you assume that they will have wrong attitude? Maybe you would if you think so. Difficult to find? You have telephones and emails. Difficulty is in your mentality.

Let's be extremely clear here, none of the employees were laid off. THEY WERE TERMINATED!! That was made very clear to them at the time. Now it's almost impossible to find the right skills to replace them especially in the maintenance department. A very poor decision made by management. To terminate skilled trades for the sake of headcount when it's almost impossible to find was just not smart. There was many other options to reduce headcount by terminating other roles that are easy to hire. Duh!!!

I totally agree with bringing people back that were laid off.But I’m also saying they took away many peoples dignity in the manner they did it.Once they do that laid off people will never have the same dedication as the once had this is there reasoning .I know it’s not right it is big corporate bu-----t.

They should have recall and hire back those employees but the way they demoralized them going out the door wouldn’t be productive.I know because I am one of them never in my working years have I been so disrespected by a young management punk.Go ahead call me back and I will gladly tell you what I think of that place.

Our management is trying to bring new untrained people, spend unnecessary, endanger guality and enforce feeling of lack of job stability among long time employees. Instead of pragmatic, logical and moral- bringing bacedvek trained and efficient laid-off people.
"Genius" idea, of one misguided pencil pusher, demanding from our long time friends to APPLY AGAIN for jobs that they did efficiently for years is morally twisted. If somebody is laid-off and not fired than just call him or her back. Time to quit politics and start financially effective producing.

On point, it seems to have started, I hope. The surface finishing associate director has suddenly “left the business “ This is a very positive move for the people and company. Hopefully his entourage will follow him out the door. Too much lies and deceit coming from that department which impacts the rest of the company.

Brains are not required for the job. U come in smart and then the company forces you to become stupid less you show off infront of the wrong person. There are no friends here at Collins. Just alpt of backstabbing and barrel bending. Thats how you get ahead. And that's why I'm still just a button pusher. I don't stab ppl in the back or suck up to bosses. I have integrity and self respect. I treat my.cowprkers.grest but the same cannot be said about my coworkers and how they treat others. This place is worse than a high school full.of grade 10 girls. Just shut your mouth and the money will roll in. It's an easy job. It's only hard if u make it hard for yourself. If you figure these things out then you will keep.your job like I have. I have seen a lot of ppl walked out those doors crying and in disbelief. The best was the id--t fr built on Steve who was crying and screaming for randy Corey to save him lol. Randy was almost out thr door by that point. But this guy was rude and aggressive to ppl. Love seeing those ones get pushed out the door.

We're picking up tons of work. We're hiring again. We're I stalling like 10 more Machines and a whole new 737 profile line. You bozos have no clue. I'll keep making over 100k to push a button while u keep trying to convince yourselves that the doors are closing lol. Hope your enjoying your new 25 dollar an hr job while I enjoy my over 50 dollar an hour Job lol. Doors def aren't closing. Just the whiney babies doing what they do best. Cry 😢

So I see on indeed that Collins Oakville is hiring an HR specialist to deal with employee relations.Once again throwing money at problems the problems that current HR have not dealt with it is a made up title.Harasment bullying and or intimidation in the work place should be totally unacceptable. Unfortunately this is not true at Collins Aerospace as I have witnessed it first hand.It is a cancer that should have been removed years ago.Instead HR has let it grow to the point it is out of control. It is the same people time and time again bullying others and intimidating others why doesn’t HR deal with them and fire them leopards don’t change there spots.

I love how these older guys like to take managers and supervisors out on golfing trips. The guys pay for the managers golf game and drinks and food. Then those guys get unlimited overtime to walk around and do nothing wile getting paid. Management are the biggest crooks. They steal but in clever ways. Untraceable payoffs. Nice gig eh. And no need to mention names because we all know who these ppl are. One of them likes to hold a invite only golf tourney every year. Only the boys club are invited. The dummies like to post the group pics on their machines or social media. Do u honestly think the rest of us are stupid and don't see why u invite certain managers and why u do it ???? Ya this place is dirty and the dirt is mostly contained to this good ol boys club from the menasco/Goodrich Era. Hope one day u get caught and fired. Sooo sick of the favoritism In this place. And id--t "machinists" with zero license and education get paid more than me who has a license and education. I have more experience in the field than most of these mo--ns all put together. They push a button for 30 yrs and think they're master machinists lol. Gtfoh. I really really hope one day all of this comes out in the wash and something is actually done about it.

Ethics, morals and integrity died five months ago, when a lot of hardworking and dedicated people were let go. No attempt to get them back by "management". Do you expect this virtues to be reborn now in mentality of people who messed up. Sweet dreams.

Post ID: @5voqi+16M9D41w

I thought ethics and honesty were key attributes of the company and part of the four gears also zero retaliation policy so how can you be fired for doing the right thing? Seems like senior leaders have lost touch with reality and are so disconnected that they are either oblivious to what’s going on or are ignoring it. Has to be one or the other. Either way it’s not good for all the great employees at this site.

It was another SF supervisor that took the video and also there a quality inspector. Disgraceful conduct and goes against all policies. They should all be fired!!! No excuse can condone this conduct especially from supervisors.

SF Supervisor dancing on TikTok. No mask on! In CMM room! Parts on show in the background! Reported and nothing! What a joke, now the entire company has to do Ethics & Compliance-Electronics & Social Media Training. Big cover up by the SF management team and possibly other leadership onsite. Different rules for different people. Hate to say it but probably a union coming soon at this rate or get rid of the cancerous SF leadership team along with any other hires brought in through the site leader that was fired.

I hope the current supervisor (com.PARTHA_JAYA.com) won't be the next Quality Manager at Collins Oakville. This person is not at all competent. Please hire someone who knows and manage the Quality standard properly. This guy doesn't even know how to close an opportunity from an audit.

Ultimately the general manager is responsible for not taking proper action on favoritism and tolerating abuse of competences and mismanagement of the whole situation. Duty of general manager is not to allow any wrongdoing in the selection process and prevent it from happening again in the future.
Comments like the one below are examples of arrogance of too confident (comparatively overpaid) - old generation of employees. If things don't change than your time is coming too buddy.

Layoffs were made not based on contributions, knowledge, dedication, efficiency, professionalism or seniority, but on connection to and liking or disliking by senior managers. It's simple truth of what happened. It's disgrace to management.

Post ID: @3Gjet+16M9D41w

As one of the people that were recently let go I’m confused as to how you think all the senior guys were let go. From my knowledge and understanding it was mostly newer people that were let go.
If surface finishing management s—s than say something. I’m not too familiar with them but are they all that bad?

You’re taking the example “literally “, it should be obvious that you keep your best employees regardless of service.

by

Post ID: @3pvtw+16M9D41w

From a post below....

"Keep the employee with lots of service, even though you get nothing but complaints from your customers, or keep the newer employee who satisfies the customer."

  • and comical. As has been written several times here, what makes you think the "new" guys are achieving customer satisfaction? Yet the "employee with lots of service" have not? You must be one of the "new" guys...as we never had issues keeping the customers happy...as a matter of fact we used to carry spare gear that we could have at the customer in 2 days....but you knew that right? The issues we are having started with the Tullahoma migration but got amplified with the new management and there lack of knowledge....we could go on comparing or showing issues of what has happened, but we are where we are now...are you confident that the "new" unproven guys and management can accomplish what the "employee with lots of service" did?

Also the comments on "its different this time" are also misplaced....in all of history its never been "different" from tulip investing to the current RE bubble it will always end the same...we should of kept the people that knew what to do, and not risk it with the "new" guys...especially now...

Too bad what’s been going on.

  • it was mentioned in an earlier text that if only Boeing only knew what was going on that heads would roll.

Why not elaborate on that? Perhaps the managers of whom you p–poo on would be fired and it maybe a start of things to change. Who knows, maybe Boeing is listening?!

Just saying.
