This is what the real world and real lay-offs look like

People being bitter about Aramco cutting 5% of expat workforce. So what, the company had to do what the company had to do, low oil prices and a global economic depression. Chevron has been doing this for 30 years. Aramco resorted to this only a handful of times.

In addition to the 1000s of layoffs by Exxon, look what Exxon is doing to ALL its workforce in the US. No more Savings match. Great job Exxon.

How pitiful are comments from retired aramconvicts that wasted years of good life licking saudi boots. Now they come here as if they are worth something because they grab some bucks, not without creamy assh*les.

Listen to the previous poster with the lengthy message on the toxic environment. He is correct and so is Mr. Bingo’s reaction. I am retired, but still miss the way of life. I have learned to keep ideas to yourself until you are ready to present it to the management. Keep up with your job skills, when possible. Self-develop yourself, continuously. Do not worry about who got what. Do not worry about how much they do or do not make. Always prepare to get laid off. Try to stay away from toxic parties on the camp. Strive to stay with the Company 25 years in the retirement formula. The people you call friends are not all friends, but competitors. Good luck.

The remaining expats who are allowed to insult people who they think were laid off here are not being retained for their math skills or for their ability to find, assimilate, and understand simple details. Anyone with a browser and common sense would know that unemployment was sweetened this year.

As to being uprooted? He is correct. Good people do not get laid off. In our case and since it does not matter from where the work is we cared little for the corrupt and hostile and toxic workplace and community that Aramco became so we packed up, cashed out, and returned home.

This gentleman? Exemplifies the Aramco culture we left behind. Poisonous, narcissistic, gets a sick twisted thrill from making fun of and taunting those he imagines are less fortunate than he views himself, and when challenged simply makes up imaginary details about others to boost his self image. He examples the company and company culture quite accurately.

Fair warning that this is the attitude you can expect from your colleagues every day if you are ever tempted to work there. It is not worth it.

True, a "S" has not been given to an expat in my department for nine years. The gentleman who received it still works here, and was the last.

Did expats all of a sudden, and collectively stop performing or was the system rigged to ensure locals get promoted quicker?

Undoubtedly, there's several Saudis in our department that deserve a good grade code, but the PMP system didn't differentiate between them and their poor performering colleagues, and left many expats in the dark regardless of their performance.

Mr. Non-Believer: the guy quoting the large unemployment benefits in Texas may be adding the $600.00/week federal pandemic layoff payment. The other guy worked at ASC from 1991 to 2005. Both appear to be speaking the truth.

One, you and your buddy are liars. In Texas, the current maximum Weekly Benefit Amount is $521.00.
Two, if you worked a little harder, cared about your kids, you wouldn't have gotten laid off. Only you to blame. No company lays off S performers. You are to blame for uprooting your kids, you were doing the minimum and doing 7:01 to 3:59 and delivering the bare minimum. Noone wants to take responsibility, only blame the company for your own in-competencies. Good luck to you.

I had a buddy get laid off in Houston. He collected $1100 a week in unemployment and took a gig in E&C about 3-4 weeks later.

No uprooting. No getting tossed from his home. No kids kicked out of school. No being held hostage waiting for an “exit visa” permission to go anywhere.

Aramco layoffs look nothing like the real world. Stop pretending that they do.

This is a company in business for exactly a year that has crashed a helicopter already, carries a debt load into the millions, and cannot even pay their partner anymore now seeking to take over Aramco Aviation.

Hopefully those making the ultimate decision on the matter will see this for what it really is - a lifeline to a very poorly ran and mismanaged company.

What's good and has worked? Aviation? Ha, seriously though, that's mainly true but none of it will matter as there's nobody on the BOD that knows anything about running an aviation department so they'll believe whatever THC puts in their PowerPoint slides.

Good thing as well, as THC is in survival mode and has no chance at profitability without taking over Aramco's aviation department and sticking a bill to producing and drilling for each flight they perform. Zero chance they optimize seats either, and they will gladly fly just one passenger in order to jack up the amount of flights and bill accordingly.

Good luck with that disaster.

I work in Aviation, and sadly that's the rumor going around now.

Frankly, it's bad for business and they'll see it soon enough after they give approval for this company to take over. As it stands, we are currently struggling with the contractors we have now in terms of paying them on time and conforming to the contract requirements regarding work schedules. As a result the morale is very low and the majority are actively seeking employment elsewhere - we had 11 quit and simply not get on the plane to return to work last year alone. Also, several of their contracts are up for renewal and they've already tried getting them to sign on again for three year terms at lower pay, while working more. Not a single one has agreed to the terms and a few have committed to resign instead.

If implemented this will mean that the Aramcon pilots will convert and become a contractor just like them. Most have already said they'll just leave, and they will vs. tolerating the above-mentioned conditions. So with our optempo, amount of aircraft, and manpower requirements there's noway we will maintain operations under such a regime when there's not nearly enough Saudis to fill the vacancies created by the expat exodus, and won't be for at least 3-5+ more years.

If it's about salary then they had already increased the local's pay by introducing a flight hour bonus, which unto itself, should give pause for concern whenever you need to pay someone to show up to work and do their actual job. Literally, they're getting paid extra per one hour they fly to incentivize work they were already supposed to be doing.

But hey let's start paying them all 40-50k sar a month for their "expertise" even for those that are fresh graduates with zero flying experience.

After being here 10+ years it never ceases to amaze me how they always manage to ruin something that was actually good and worked.

Indeed they are and will be. Next up on the chopping block is the Aviation department.

A PIF supported company from Riyadh led by a bunch of kids and ex aramco Co-pilots have weasled their way in and convinced the board of directors that by firing the lone remaining expat captains with decades of experience and then doubling the salaries of anybody with a green passport that it will be good for business.

So many better ways to improve the bottom line in Aviation but this is the conclusion they've arrived at unfortunately.

Would've thought they learned their lesson from the JHAH debacle, I guess you can't fix stupid.
