can anyone answer when the NY BC will be sold / abandoned ?

Post ID: @cpvn+16vyBUDT

history of CBS Broadcast center, it once was Sheffield Farms. then CBS bought it and turned it into a broadcast center with tv studios

how much time do they have left at the New York BC for studio production ? any estimate ?

by
|
Post ID: @bvww+16vyBUDT

i wonder how many more years the studios on 57th street will remain open, if the BC shuts down / gets sold , many jobs will be gone. If the new operation center is in Happague then the union techs at the BC are out of work unless they are old staff if what you are saying is true about hbo facility in Happague being non union. i would assume these techs at BC would have a hard time getting an equivalent job to what they have now

so what does this mean for the current CBS broadcast center ?

man, people are not understanding. the "old" HBO facility had massive upgrades that went on for a few years leading right up to ATT deal. its basically new facility. Viacom NOC has been expanding and updating for years. they would keep BOTH, housing certain equipment/department at existing NOC, IE data center that is now housed there. a tech center can be two separate things, some combine studios and broadcasting and others break the two up. A tech center and a separate studio location. someone is asking for something official, short of posting internal emails, don't know how to prove that to you that the Build out at HBO is happening, its in early stages. believe me or don't. now nuts and bolts of what will be moved to hauppauge facilities, I don't know EXACTLY what the plan is. however, it is being budgeted and architectural build out plans exist. not divulging how I know this here. this will not be a studio centric facility. That is what I know. BTW, maybe I misread but someone suggesting viacom noc is shuttered, that is not the case, fully operational. I understand folks are worried but what I am posting here in regards to all this is not conjecture, just trying pass along what I know. thinking I will stop posting as it is falling on deaf ears. good luck to you all.

To the individual who claims the HBO facility is too small, you don’t understand the industry you work in. I don’t know how long you worked in it maybe you just had poor teachers. A broadcast center IS NOT A STUDIO!!!!!! That’s not how tv works. It doesn’t have to be in the same location or the same state. Second the HBO facility is rather large in comparison to most broadcast centers.

If both HBO & Viacom shuttered their facilities in the same industrial park already - it was for a good reason and unlikely they are opening anytime soon - the were both there for 35 years, it seems everything was thought out before shutting down. the only reason to move to Hauppauge would be to get rid of old-timers who don't live on long island - such as hoards of CBS people that live in jersey.

the Hauppauge location is heresay/rumor. nothing official about that. If anybody knows the facility - it was 1 small studio for local productions - certainly not room for the entire broadcast center. the other LI facility which was TV55 was also just big enough for a rinky dink broadcast. If anybody has anything OFFICIAL to post - please post. There are dozens of places in the suburbs to put a broadcast studio - including Bethpage Grumman site which is a film studio. Hard to believe any speculation when employees are working from home

All we need to do is let boomers retire peacefully. Give them a package. CBS only exists because of old people who run and watch it. Even Patrick Stewart wants out and he’s old as f—. Not against old people, just old ideas as old as my dead Grandmother.

i heard they are keeping the cbs studios on 57th st but moving MDC to Long Island also

"First it’s not a rumor. There is a new broadcast center. It’s the old HBO building on Long Island. Second a broadcast center is not the same as a studio."

THIS. been giving info in regards to this for a while now. the early stages of build out for combined Viacom NOC /CBS NOC including showtime have been on going. certain production positions and studios will remain in NYC, where? that I do not have any solid info on.Comcast/ nbcuniversal did a similar move years ago now. sports out of Stamford, nbcuniversal technology centers in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. cost savings moves. however still a presence in NYC for some studio/production. there will always be a studio/production presence in NYC in some capacity for this company.

if you suggest rumor and innuendo Opposite of what is official from the company - STOP, it serves no purpose but to dilute actual info in this feed. the last thing people need is unfounded BS

by

Post ID: @8uxt+16vyBUDT

the rumor at cbs is simply wishful thinking from survivors swimming around the fishbowl waiting to get axed

by

Post ID: @7uzn+16vyBUDT

well if there was a new broadcast center - they wouldn't be bringing shows into the old broadcast center - if they are bringing shows into the old broadcast center it's because they have no choice because it's the only space available at the present time. ANY other building at Viacomcbs can be making new space for shows - doesn't mean Broadcast center is staying or a new one is being built. Viac is $19 Billion in Debt - it needs to sell buildings. There's plenty of space at Hudson Yards or Time Warner cnn towers - any of that space can be moved into during Any show hiatus- without the rank & file at cbs knowing anything. Plus you don't know which shows are going to get axed without notice - like colbert etc., where any show can easily occupy the space over hiatus

well it was a rumor for a good while but there never was anything official

someone/group will snap up black rock sooner than later. Manhattan real estate world is a peculiar thing. is it optimal time sell? no, they may push it off, but they will eventually get close to that billion they seek. won't stop them from vacating the offices there though. cnet and SS will be sold sooner than later, even if they don't get what they hoped for. BOC will take a while, but that shut down/sale might take a while. anything is possible but don't see full shut down and sale until at least late 2021. don't think its was part of the pre pandemic plan for 2020, if I recall correctly they had a 3 year post merger plan for sale of assets and planned reduction of overall workforce. from what I understood BOC was in later stages of that old plan. all of this is flux, minus the layoffs, sticking to those timelines and now even more layoffs.
