The Union retirees are collecting unemployment along with their severance - riddle me that Batman

Loser is really going to hurt these people’s feelings. Mind your own beeswax. What are we 5 years old. Sack up. Everyone is so soft. Life is tough, get a helmet. A global pandemic will cause less profitability which in turn creates job cuts and headcount losses. And Viacom is a sh–ty company that could use lessons on diversity, discrimination, respect and moral/ethical integrity. Compassion would be a start? But with the C suite constantly changing... 1 thing remains. A suffering stock price and no relief in site due to delusional unintelligent leaders who project their insecurities all over their employees which limits our ability to do what we are here for. Create cool sh–. Entertaining content and accurate and informative news. But don’t let me digress. With no merit increases I am just waiting for the bonuses to be cut. I bet they are cut already but there will be a Bob Live timed right before an earnings call to rip the carpet right from under us. As if we don’t already know the slimy will keep getting richer while we all get poorer.

re: unemployment, in new york, technically, you cannot collect severance and UI at same time, no lump sum severance situation. its what happened when I got laid off, had to wait until severance was over. Now, I was following the rules, could I have claimed it and not been caught, most likely. this was all pre pandemic, NOW? yeah I would just go ahead and claim, they are so swamped, highly unlikely ever be an issue or they waived that rule. a co worker of mine laid off at same time, filed and was asked to come to one NYS labor centers to review his claim. this was during a low unemployment timeframe and they had time to do these reviews of applications. he played dumb with it, but they stopped his UI until his severance had run out. again, this may have all changed with pandemic but that was for sure the situation when I got laid off. there were a few loopholes to it in past, but just so you know.

Make sure you negotiate extended employer benefits like health insurance to cover the severance window so are ready as this is a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. Private insurance like Cobra costs like $950 a month. What ethical and moral companies lay this many employees off in the middle of a global pandemic? After staying several times that we’ve exceeded the required and promised “cost efficiencies” and are going to close our the earnings for the year in a way better place than anticipated. Words came from Bob himself.

File for unemployment ASAP. The last requires the corporation to fully pay out the employee laid off on the last day you work. Typically they give you until Friday to save contacts and transition projects. Once you are no longer an employee, you receive unemployment. The severance pay is due to you on final day of work in a lump sum in full. This is in addition to any contract breaches, vacation or PTO you are due then. Final checks on all fronts. Then you can collect the unemployment check.

You really need to come here to get these questions answered? And then people trying to explain what they don’t even really know about. You all deserve to be fired.

Q: Will I be eligible for benefits if I receive my first dismissal/severance payment more than 30 days after my last day of employment?

A: Yes. If you receive your first dismissal/severance payment more than 30 days after your last day of employment, you will be able to receive Unemployment Insurance benefits if you meet the other eligibility requirements.

"A: No. Payments made under the New York State WARN Act (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act– Article 25-A of the Labor Law) are not considered dismissal/severance pay. The WARN Act states that Unemployment Insurance benefits may not be denied or reduced because of payment(s) received under the WARN Act."

Look up the unemployment requirements. You can file. You will receive benefits.

You can't file for unemployment if the warn act is keeping you on the books
You need to file after your last day after warn pay

Just because you receive severance does not mean that you cannot collect unemployment. FILE ASAP.

What’s LBE and 1515 is that NY location job sites ?

by
|
Post ID: @9tsl+17RpSMlG

keep in mind RE: WARN act, they simply can just pay you for the WARN period in additional severance. that fulfills requirement. so the numbers on WARN page, at least in NY can be misleading. majority of people in dept I was in, large layoffs, never listed on WARN. I am always skeptical of those numbers.

Anyone know if it’s LA/NY or if it’s CBS VIA or holdings like Nick/Noggin etc. What department is Prod Ops ? I think the Christmas Eve was the date on the Warn. Report I don’t think people thought they would be told on that date just by that date.

100 employees from across the combined company are being impacted. The cutbacks are focused primarily in Corporate shared services (finance, legal, technology) all reported in Deadline, Hollywood and Variety, plus NY Warn Report indicates late Dec 2020 layoffs. https://www.labor.ny.gov/app/warn/details.asp?id=9181

You were told about these layoffs? Jeez!!! Who told you? Where did you hear this ? OMG please tell me you people aren't from the News Division .

I haven’t heard anything and it’s lunch . Is this related to Paramount+ the Warn Report does list 25 more by 1/31. Some have dates that must be agreed upon like Christmas Day and weekend days. Says no employees that are unionized
