Thread regarding Collins Aerospace layoffs

Anyone know why they are recruiting new college grads and interns when layoffs/furloughs are happening? Are these postings real?

A lot of the processes are old and outdated. Bringing in new talent is easier to train. Also older workers often fight change instead of embracing change. Which is a little funny bc the only think constant in life is change.

I get it. It s—s when this happens. But I don’t think these young interns are trying to replace the experienced workers. Nor could they. They also should not be the target of the war. Heck, they may not even know the war is taking place. Interns are not always looking for a full time jobs, rather experience or exposure to an industry to see if they even like it. My guess is, if they get there and experience all the discourse, or see how valuable employees are treated, the good interns won’t stick around anyway, and will run the other way as fast as they can. Better for them, to find it out early in their career than dedicate their career, to later be part of mismanaged downsizing, and ultimately become bitter. If you are good at what you do, my advice is to take your talent elsewhere. Go to work where you are valued. Here’s hoping better days are ahead for all who were affected.

All I can say is that, they hope these young kids can pick things up quick to backfill people they dumped.

I hope Karma comes back at some certain people at Collins because they don't have a clue as to what us "grunt" people do and how we contribute to their success.

Most of those higher ups, looking only at the $ profit / loss. They don't realize all those years of profit and succeess is due to the hardwork of the people that they don't even know. All they see is a skills matrix chart and see how has the least amount of green boxes and go "lay that mf off."

It's easy for them to be making their 200k salary while the rest of us try to work our asses off for that merit increase only to get it canceled.

F those putos that don't have a clue. If the economy wasn't in the toilet right now, what would they do if we all just quit because all they care about is themselves. The company would be belly up already.

They only see investors $$, but they don't seem to realize that their work force is what provides them that success.

CEO - did he take a paycut? Oh wait, sure he did...what's a 10-20% paycut to a 6 figure salary with all these stock options? It's nothing to him....it's like one square of TP to wipe his fat a–.

Only someone ungrateful or pompous would describe an internship opportunity as cheap labor/brain dead clerical work. Bet those guys who got laid off would take the job, too. I don’t blame these kids for taking advantage of an opportunity to learn more about the areospace industry if given the chance? Even if the job does not require intense brain power, it is smart to experience an industry from the inside when your trying to decide what you want to do with your future career. Better than the alternative of never getting the chance, or getting laid off. Bet your first job or early work opportunity did not start as President of the company. Sounds like you clearly forgot typically you walk before you run. Sometime even the non glamours jobs can teach you a lot.
