Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

CW contracts not being renewed

Hearing from a lot of CW's that their contracts are not being renewed at the end of Oct. These are contractors that have been renewed year after year and not the 2 year contract employees.

Anyone can be chopped at anytime for any reason. Direct hires are not any more protected than CWs. Some CWs make more $ in total than direct hires. Yes! This happens.

It's not only the 1 year CW people. I can confirm that as well, since I was one of the 2 year guys. And just had a contract renewal two months before.

Hearing the same thing here. So far it is in ink and print. Contrary to the the poster below, HP values its CW's higher than some regular workers. They can pay them the same hourly wage or more and still come out ahead because of all those other benefits. The typical $30 and hour CW worker, HP pays $60 an hour for. Yes they are going to treat them like gold. Yes I am a CW and get paid more than $30 an hour. Been at HP as a CW for close to 5 years now.

This is not news. The nature of contract work is that you can be chopped at any time for any reason. You have as much value as the a$$ gaskets in the bathroom. Nice to use when available, but no big deal when they are gone.
